PCR tests are still backlogged for at least a week if not more! The earliest one can get an appointment at one of the "free" locations is January 24th and even that will fill up before the day is over!

The only "bright" spot in all of this, according to local TV news reports from this AM, is that there are ZERO patients, who are hospitalized with the omicron variant, that need the ECMO machine, unlike the delta variant.

Blimey - 962 positives out of 3,848 tests.

What's that - about 25% positivity rate?

This is going to get a lot worse.

But never mind, my idiot boss has ordered us all back into the office again, less than a week after exposing us all to a COVID-positive colleague. So everything's probably fine.

What's that - about 25% positivity rate?

So out of people who probably had some symptoms and wanted to get tested, 25% had COVID-19.

So 75% didn't have COVID-19... That's a quite a high negativity rate, right? :D

@CommodoreFlag.

I think that’s a fair assumption…. Ie people with symptoms and /or are required to be tested for certain reasons.

In Okinawa, one of the most affected areas with the lowest vax rate, more than 90% of those testing positive have no/mild symptoms. Nationwide, about 90% of all positive cases for Omicron have no/mild symptoms.

The findings are also consistent with overseas cases.

Despite a relatively small impact, Japan's heathcare system for covid is still under overwhelming risk due to regulations. Time to revise it, to enable all healthcare workers to join the frontline and to treat patients on the spot without consulting the public health center.

It's been 2 weeks since Tokyo reported any COVID-19 deaths. Since the beginning of December, only 4 people have died. That's 4 people in all of Tokyo, folks.

You wouldn't think it reading these comments though...

The virus spread cannot be contained, restrictions are pointless. As I stated here at beginning of December this ain’t no Delta. This is far milder and everyone will become infected. Better with a mild variant than hiding away until a more deadly one appears and catching that.

Commodore

What do you expect really mate? Just look at the things they’ve been saying over the past year.

Zoroto

Except this isn’t Delta. Time to be more positive old chap and start living normally again.

I guess I'm just wondering at what point will they will finally calm down. In one sense, it's not even their fault - they've been riled up for 2 years now by sensationalist news designed to stimulate the worst and the wildest attributes of the human imagination.

Commodore

Yeah, if you just watch mainstream media you’d probably have that mindset.

I think we should put more restrictions on BARS and RESTAURANTS if they cooperate we should reimburse their wages. It is to prevent the spread of the virus.

It is pointed out that some bars and restaurants have actually been better off by shutting down under SOE with relief funds rather than by running precarious businesses without SOE. A bad incentive can arise unless the support programmes are sensibly implemented.

Two weeks? This entire Omicron wave will be over.

Better don’t underestimate those viruses and the virus loads already inside you. The study from U.S. National Institutes of Health’ Clinical Center in Maryland gives you quite some surprisingly scary details. Those billions if little beasts replicate up to 230 days, affect up to 85 locations in your body, in short words, almost everything, not only lungs or bronchial parts. You might be feeling free of symptoms today, but in fact that’s by far not the case. If you realize it in a few months or years, it might be rather late or too late. Once again, ‘living with the viruses’ is a misleading phrase, it’s in reality an earlier than necessary dying with or from the viruses. Zero Covid, that’s the only option, independent of your level of agreement or disagreeing.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Sven,

Nonsense. For one Omicron doesn’t effect the lungs. Why on earth would you live in fear, thinking of these unrealistic worst case scenarios?

Zero Covid is impossible as is Zero Common Cold, zero anything for something that is easily spread le and airborne. If you wish to hide away, it’s your choice, but not many will be doing the same.

Down from last week! We did it guys! We're over the curve!

....and this is the only news here that counts. A virus that infects everyone but puts no one in hospital should not be an issue in a sane world.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

@Foreigner

We are not panicking. And who told you all these new cases are Omicron? Are you not of slightest concern when over 1000 people still died yesterday in the US? Just like previous variants and against any infectious diseases, we d better be cautious but not panicked. Whatever it is, this too shall pass but before that we have to be healthy and safe first. Let everyone loose… and some might not behave as they should will be a formula for chaos.

The ones who go to free testing have no symptoms and unlikely to have covid

That beautiful number of 27 critical patient has now reach 90. That is more worrying. As we have a lot of old people here. As more people get sick, you gonna have more critical cases.

We know the virus is gonna spread everywhere eventually but i do hope it doesn't spread too fast. Last thing we need is like from other nations who nurses are getting sick and having a massive shortages of essential staffs all around the country.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Based on the reduction of tests, the actual infection number is closer to 2500. Nationwide is 15,000.
