And no one has flu, strange that

Covid19 and influenza are both coronaviruses, so nothing surprising here.

SARS-CoV-2 belongs to Coronaviridae family and it is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus (Baltimore Group IV).

Influenza virus belongs to Orthomyxoviridae family and it is a single-stranded negative-sense RNA virus (Baltimore Group V).

It is the start of the cold and flu (influenza) season where colds and flu cases always rise. Covid19 and influenza are both coronaviruses, so nothing surprising here.

Ladies & Gentleman, The Tokyo Olimpics Cannot Saftly Prcoeed.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The explanation ids simple. They could no longer hide the real increase in cases an serious cases, so now they lie about the number of tests to get the positivity rate down.

it will get a lot worse with the 3 day long weekend numbers starting to show up.

still talking Olympics now is just irrational.

and Koike is a big disappointment to me but she will be the last politician i have ever believed in.

As the governor of Tokyo saying that the federal government is the responsible one is calling yourself obsolete and disposable.

Bah

Every says its a concern then almost everyone goes out.

I wear a mask but are not going to do anymore than that, I have a family to feed. Friends restaurants and bars to support.

Elderly people should d

Elderly people die every winter, its a shame but thats nature.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Olympics? That's still far. But I keep seeing Roppongi and Shinjuku salsa events on Facebook. Why would anyone keep joining these events and frequenting those places in the current situation?

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Olympics, anyone?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Please save human lives first.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The reason that almost zero tests are carried out is that, you almost have to be dying to get one. That would suggest that many people had a mild flu and recovered and probably have herd immunity

Btw, where in Tokyo is the izakaya that sells ¥190 beer? I have many GoTo Eat vouchers. .

Seems Osaka has run out of beds for covid-19, be extra careful there folks

Bed occupancy rates:

Osaka 118%

Hokkaido 67.8

Aichi 73.2

Tokyo 63.9

Shizouka 60.4

It is worrisome. Winter is also in the corner. The stringent testing requirements should be relaxed.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I highly doubt that test number.

They have not announced any rule changes to the testing requirements. Perhaps it's tests over several days, and they just processed it today. I find it inconceivable that Tokyo will allow such an increase in testing. This is probably a 1 time thing, and we will see the reported test numbers go back down to 4000-6000 level tomorrow.

Japan is all above cover-ups, would be a mistake to place too much trust in government data.

all of the sudden they are able to test almost 10000. They should keep same amount of the test every day, because that will show real situation. 570 from 10000 is nothing for many people.

i do believe that is the way how to make people not panic.

Always important to note how we got here, by who's decisions and guidance.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

That’s what I said two days ago that on Friday, we will be back to the normal positive raté of 6%

When we compare apples and apples, we have the true results.

ie right number of tests for the right number of positive results

Christopher Glen - And the number of fatalities? That is what matters - and puts the disease into perspective, amongst all the other dangerous viruses out there

I’m quite sure that if you were to spend 3 months in hospital on a respirator and the following year with asthma like symptoms and permanent damage to your lungs your focus on fatalities might be quite different.

18 ( +25 / -7 )

Fact:

Yesterday finished with 2507 positive cases and 30 deaths countrywide.

There are European countries with 20-30k cases each day with 15, 20 deaths.

I will not make any further comment.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

That’s still low compared to many countries.

Again this sort of statement is actually no valid. The many countries you are referring to test way more than Japan so it's pointless to compare the number of infections.

12 ( +17 / -5 )

Increasing numbers and today new record.

Government must be fudging the numbers to save face and the olympics

Tokyo reports record high 570 new cases

But also record high amount of tests: 9.792

They never conducted so many tests. (Almost 10.000)

That’s still low compared to many countries. What’s the situation on Fantasy Island?

6 ( +13 / -7 )

Unfortunately, I do not believe this reflects the true nature of the spread of the virus as the effect of the 3 day weekend and Go To campaign will not make be known until the incubation period is reached early next week.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

so...around 6% of tests came back positive? So, its pretty much the best day this week.

-6 ( +8 / -14 )

Something is not right. Either the number of tests was lower or the number of positives is being capped.

Yeah this is actually very weird.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

NHK is reporting 8 deaths for Hokkaido alone.

Sorry it was a mistake. I wanted to say that's for a population of more than 5 million people. And 8 deaths compared to what other mortality cause? I guaranty you there are way more than 8 deaths every day without covid so it's pointless to throw numbers without putting them in perspective.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

A few days ago 400 positives out of 1400 tests, yesterday 401 out of 2400 tests, today 570 out of 9000 tests.

Something is not right. Either the number of tests was lower or the number of positives is being capped.

13 ( +18 / -5 )

And the number of fatalities? That is what matters - and puts the disease into perspective

Survivors having to deal with lung scarring, or even a lung transfer might have a thing or two to say about that.

8 ( +16 / -8 )

By age group, the highest number of cases were people in their 20s (147), followed by 120 in their 30s and 76 in their 40s.

Ok but how the remaining 227 people divides up? It would be interesting to know.

Almost 10.000 tests...Wow!

That's still very low actually.

NHK is reporting 8 deaths for Hokkaido alone.

Yeah but that's for a to

7 ( +11 / -4 )

wow, a record number of test leads to a record number of cases - who would of thought?...

21 ( +24 / -3 )

The story will be updated at around 7 p.m. to include numbers from other prefectures and the number of deaths.

"Which ones? Ebola? SARS? What's your point?"

My point is COVID-19 is not the only virus we should be worrying about. But thanks to blanket media coverage, and the fear this has generated, cancer patients have missed treatments and appointments.

The fear needs to be reduced - by focussing less on cases, and more on the fatality rate

-12 ( +11 / -23 )

I think the posters who are everyday screaming for more tests will be satisfied, or???

Almost 10.000 tests...Wow!

-23 ( +8 / -31 )

And the number of fatalities? That is what matters - and puts the disease into perspective, amongst all the other dangerous viruses out there

Even me is surprised about increasing amount of tests.
