The article does not say that the old man died, but I am guessing so. Poor guy.

So many leaking windows suggests the wind blew from some unusual directions.

A group of 18 people, including children, who had been stranded while camping on the bank of a swollen river in Oita, were safely rescued Thursday, the disaster management agency said.

According to other news : these people got caught in Wednesday afternoon by the sudden rise of the river level. They were there for a barbecue not camping, they had tents most likely because of the same reason they have tents when they go to the beach. The typhoon was expected for the 15th and it landed in the afternoon of the 15th. They were rescued on the 15th.

'@ Bungle,

News about this poor man were out at 4:00pm, the landing was around 3:15pm. In Osaka we have had guts of wind since a while and there are still some. It is quite possible, he was pushed by one of these. It is a pity. My condolences to the bereaved.

I thought the people complaining yesterday that the zoo and Anpanman Museum etc being closed during the holiday were a bit dim, but going camping by a river when a typhon is coming is one for the Darwin Awards,

I know it sucks that typhoons more often then not hit on holidays (or weekends), but they should NOT have been camping when a typhoon was on its way, and this was a slow moving typhoon that was predicted to hit. I'm glad they were safely rescued, however.

Only lot of rain here in Osaka, the wind was soso. I heard one guy had the door slam closed due to the hard wind while he had is hand on the doorpost, losing two fingers.

I stayed home and the worst that happened was that Krosa pushed some water into a room on the second floor...

never understood why people get the urge to get on their roofs and go out to the seasides when typhoons come...
