Condolences from the U.S. We experienced a major hurricane on our east coast last year that left us without power for a couple weeks. I hope Japan makes a fast recovery.

A number of school children are volunteering to help with the disaster as many schools are closed. I have great respect for that.

This is precisely why, whoever you are,
get your Amateur Radio License (especially if you live in the sticks).

I'd think the MORE than 1000 reservists are needed NOW when the emergency is at its peak then taper off as it eases .

Sad to see the devastation in Japan. I was there just a few weeks ago and loved it.
I guess, nature can wreak havoc even in a country like Japan which is so organized and well managed. I am sure the Japanese, who know a thing or two about setbacks, will bounce back quickly.

Not trying to be a smart alec, but the top picture looks like a kura storehouse, not a home.
The two "halves" in the second photo also have completely different roofing, suggesting there is some kind of backstory there. An extension built on an extension, or one building that has floated and hit another, something like that. I'd ask a local before assuming it was a house someone lived in.

@Cosmos1
I often check that page as well, but if you go to the satellite view on the Weathernews Inc App, you can see something churning near the Philippines. Hopefully it fizzles out.
That home in the picture looks like it was beautiful. Hopefully it is repairable and I hope no-one died in that scene. .

According to the current earth wind surface level, it is plain sailing for thousands of miles in all directions around the Philippines .

Better prepare quickly because according to Yahoo news there is a new typhoon brewing in the Philippine region

that's a lot of homes with no power, just hoping that the government will help in cleaning up some of the houses.
