One person is a pilot, and the other is a Marine Corps NFO (Naval Flight Officer).

Very sad day for the Corps.

Let's hope they find the KC-130J and her crew still intact out there.

Our boys need to come home one way or the other.

Praying for you BATS in Iwakuni ! Semper Fi.

He thanked U.S. Forces in Japan for their "immediate response and rescue efforts" and said "Whatever you need, we are here for you."

Uh, thanks POTUS, but you really should be thanking the JSDF and JCG. They're the ones leading the SAR efforts.

RIP. Our thoughts and prayers. All service members have families, even the youngest grunts.

Coming form a purported service member, why focus on the CIC? If he thanked the JSDF and JCG instead of the USFJ, the other wing of the cockroach would hiss, guaranteed.

POTUS doesn't have to thank us for doing the obvious, searching and rescuing our own goes without saying. If he were to thank just one then it should have been the JSDF and JCG, then thank and/or recognize us for our efforts. His comment stood out as misplaced, that's all. Just not the best protocol.
