Woman, baby hit and killed by train

A woman in her 20s, carrying a baby boy, was hit and killed by a train in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, on Friday, in what police believe may have been a murder-suicide. The infant, just a few months old, also died.

According to police, the incident occurred on the tracks along the Shinkeisei line between and Shintsudanuma and Maehara stations at around 11:30 a.m. , Fuji TV reported.

The driver of the six-car train said he saw the woman holding her baby ahead on the tracks and applied the emergency brake but couldn’t stop in time.

No one on the train was injured by the impact.

maternity blues, an actual medical term in Japan. Where was the father and supporting family. This easily could have been avoided.

This could have easily been avoided? Really? You know it was post partym depression? You know the father and family weren't supporting this woman? Odd given that none of that information is in this article.

gogogo: "Where was the father and supporting family. This easily could have been avoided."

Oh, could it have been? Explain how.... since you evidently know that the father should have been there, you know, instead of at work at 11:30 a.m., swept in with a cape, and saved her. Maybe he was at work, amigo. Hell, maybe he was at work in another prefecture as per company order.

If it was Indeed PPD and suicide, she just would have done it when he wasn't around or was asleep if he quit his job, as you suggest, and stay with her 24/7.

Tragic.

Why was the woman was on the tracks? Was she rushing to cross? Did she commit suicide?

Where was the father and supporting family.

Blaming the father and the family is heartless and unfair, especially when you don't know them nor know the facts.

Obviously there are few facts here, but given the way the article is worded, with no mention of a railroad crossing, the police's suspicions of a murder-suicide are logical.

Tragic.

That poor driver. Imagine seeing yourself killing a baby and young mother and being unable to stop it. It’s doubtful he’ll receive help but I hope he does. Tragic as well that there wasn’t resources available for the mental illness the woman clearly had if it was a suicide.

Why is it whenever a mother kills herself and her baby all these people come up with PPD related sympathy? She is (was) a murderer and this is another family murder in Japan that occur daily. It’s akways the same scenario. “I was worried about my children’s future.” With the larger amount of parents killing their children and themselves it is difficult to say it is PPD related. How old does a kid have to be before it is not considered PPD? 45?

very sad news losing two precious lives. I have no idea what caused the woman to do murder-suicide on such a cold winter day but If the woman could get professional help, I think she and her baby wouldn't end up dying on the tracks. There are not much place where mother can talk openly about mental health issues such as depression and anxiety here in Japan. I think our society still have great stigma about mental illness and tends to keep it to ourselves.

Clearly all the people that voted me down do not understand the Japanese medical term maternity blues. Most hospitals, if not all, educate with training about this condition.

GoGoGo : Yes different women are affected differently after giving birth. Their hormones are not in alignment and they rationalize things differently and different countries have different names for this condition such as Postpartum Depression,  Maternity Blues etc etc etc. Now was this an accident or Murder / Suicide we will never know since the mother and child are deceased. We can all go back & forth on the condition of the mothers mental state but the bottom line here is a young mother and a new born baby are dead. Hope they are both in a better place, R.I.P..
