Leave them (dolphins) alone!

Those Japanese nationalists are dumb as a box of rocks with room temperature IQ's.

Both sides won't have to worry about anything cause TEPCO is polluting an intire ocean. What don't people protest that?

Demonstrations, protesters, campaigning and dissent are of the utmost importance. They keep the general populace from stagnating completely. Once the majority becomes content and apathetic it is easily manipulated and ultimately controllable. It is easy to see how that has happened before, and how it could happen again (censorship, media control/influence, pampering, group conformity). The JT news discussion forum would not exist without the existence of free exchange of ideas.

'Marching side by side with the environmentalists, a dozen Japanese nationalists shouted through loudhailers: “Get out of Japan! Hypocrites!”'

How are they hypocrites? The nationalists have no interest in the dolphins, only in themselves and the nation being praised. Once you don't praise them, it's "Get out!!".

I like how this is an anti dolphin hunting rally and one of the guys has a picture of an Orca whale... Even for whale hunting, Orca's are not on the target list... Talk about off topic.*

Actually Orca are the largest of the Dolphin family. So the activist has the right theme.

50 protestors is a bit of a non event though unfortunately.

About 50 activists gathered in central Tokyo

About 50? 50 moral extremists bothered to turn up? What a non-issue.

good initiative. every creature in this world has equal right to live. so we must follow the slogan "LIVE AND LET LIVE ". said by lord Mahavir 2500 years ago. NON-VIOLENCE IS THE BEST RELIGION

@Kent Mcgraw... you've actually shocked me. You seriously believe a dolphin is a FISH? A porpoise and a dolphin are members of the same family which includes Orcas, Beluga and Sperm Whales - i.e., toothed whales. Do some research, mate.

Isn't there some law that limits demonstrations to 50 people (when it's not against something foreign)?

Is there? (or is this another persecution complex thing?) You might remember the thousands outside the Diet protesting against nuclear power.

One has to consider how people's attitudes are shaped.

Look in the mirror or at wherever your country is on the map.

So, 50 people demonstrate against this barbaric practice. That only leaves another 130 million opinions to sway. Good luck!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

This barbaric so called "cultural" practice only benefits a handfull of fishermen in one small town. They have sold the meat to local schools who fed it to the children, who now have mecury poisoning. Good enough reason to stop this i would have thought.

I like meet particularly beef. I am haunted by the ghosts of the mammal everynight. Are you too?

Disillusioned: "So, 50 people demonstrate against this barbaric practice. That only leaves another 130 million opinions to sway. Good luck!"

I do not understand why they wish to hunt dolphins, the problem with the word dolphin is that a dolphin is a fish while a porpoise is a mammal. We often call a porpoise a dolphin. Are they hunting the Porpoise ie, dolphin or the dolphin fish? I remain neutral on the subject as I do not have the facts. I never saw porpoise/dolphin for sale anywhere in Japan so I was unaware that they would be hunted.

It isn't as simple matter as this...

Funny thing is Taiji gets all the media/hate but they only catch less than 10% of the legal catch allowed in Japan.

Plus other dolphin catches across the globe are ignored, bias here??

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

The right-wingers should leave these sign-carrying protesters alone and focus their nationalistic rage on the butyric acid-throwing Sea Shepherds.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

If it's Japanese people protesting then I guess we should listen. But if there are sea shepherd idiots, then it's more of a reason we should continue just to annoy them.
