FOOD and Medical Aid comes first then education, Afghanistan children deserve a better future regardless of who is governing their nation, starving these kids to death while the world is watching is a disgrace, aid groups and NGO's are more than welcomed especially from Japan based on comments made by the Taliban in the past.

I hope that the Japanese government will help in the aid efforts led by the private sector.

Pumping aid into third world countries where women are treated as chattel is not the way to help improve the situation. The change has to come from the populace. Foreign aid merely props up the brutal regimes.

For once I agree with this poster. Instead of misguided "nation building" or throwing money around, Western nations should orient foreign policy so that it rewards places that move towards secular law and cut any rewards for those that implement Sharia. To move into modernity or not should be up to the population of those places, not to us.

Perhaps, if the aid is in the form of cash. But the organizations mentioned in the article appear to have provided more direct aid - water pumping, education, medical care. I think there's a difference.

But gee, that photo is quite something. It makes me happy and sad at the same time.

It is ridiculous how the world is obsessed with Afghanistan as if they are the exception, when much of the world lives in pain and misery while the rest of the world turns and looks the other way. That aid money could do so much better in many other countries.

Taliban stamped out opium production last time they were in power and have stated that they will do so again. It was under American rule that poppy cultivation became a major problem.

I take your point. Not sure if I agree, but it may be of no consequence. Brutal regimes typically don't let foreign aid workers in - they just take the money. Of course, in some places there may be a case for ignoring governments rather than rising up against them, but that's a different topic.

Sadly true. We complain about the little so-and-sos as we bring them up, but just one smile stays with us forever. That photo is still helping and hurting me.

USA is donating to the UN World Food Program $2 billion and Japan $174 million per year while China is only donating puny $18 million. China is Afghanistan neighbour and they have said that they are willing to help the Taliban out, so let them take care of their new best friends. Of course Taliban could help themselves if they used some of their opium profit to feed its people or maybe even grow food instead of poppy.

Hell in when you either starve to death or get shot to death, we have Muslim in our country,they are able to live their lives as Muslim,they are not force to engage in thing that they do not believe,these Afghan that come to America,are gonna get a rude awaiting,what it like to live in America

I understand the cultural and mindset challenges but Japan seems to manage the benefits without the hassles of being a G7 member nation...

Number 1 way to destroy the country. I have a lot of sympathy for Afghanistan, especially since it's my home country that harassed them and wouldn't let them sort things our on their own.

But forcing a culture to share resources with a less successful one is a one-way ticket to chaos. It doesn't help them improve, and it would destroy Japanese culture. Globalization is the death of diversity, the ticket to dissatisfaction, and the end of freedom.

Other cultures can do what they want, have whatever laws they want, and live how they want, but if that's unsuccessful, then that's on THEM.

Good for them.

Afghan people like Japan, and do not distrust them like they do Western people. Japan does not have a history of warring with Afghanistan.

Photo-ops sell... Remember the dead kid on the beach in 2015? The day after everybody agreed to accept refugees. Save the Syrian kids!!!... But a large chunk of the refugees ended up being young men.
