Haneda Airport, train stations in Tokyo busy as travelers head out for Silver Week

Good to see people getting back to normal and not believing all the hysteria around Covid.

Not Golden or Silver week this year. It's always Bronze for people with low salary/savings/situation but it's always Diamond Holiday for people who just feel good if they can able to.

Like me, who don't complain if food is bad, i eat other thing, if weather is bad, i go other place, if too much crowd, i go quiet areas, if annoying people, i ignore, if it's expensive, i choose other, Nothing to be frustrated about, something is there to make you feel good and you just sense it.

That's good to see. It's so depressing to seen an empty airport terminal or empty hotel lobby.

I saw on the news last night that many ryokan and hotels in resort areas of Japan are fully booked for Silver Week. If people take the proper precautions when they travel, maybe the tourism sector can get a much needed boost without too much of an increase in virus infections.

Let’s hope so many travelers doesn’t backfire and spread the virus all over Japan.

Covid is serious. It needs to be contained. Many countries, especially asian ones, have been able to do it. Therefore with precautions like better hygiene practice and mask wearing it is relatively safe to travel.

I know the term "Golden week" is also used for the labor day and national day long holiday in Hong Kong but this is the first time I hear about "Silver week". Any Bronze week or Iron week?

’Silver week’ is a relatively new term applying to a string of public holidays in September, which gained popularity in 2009, when - unusually - there were 3 consecutive public holidays. Since then it seems the term has stuck.

No Bronze or Iron as yet, as far as I’m aware ;)

I have just been out near my house in Kyoto and there are a lot of people around this weekend. Much more than there were over Obon. Also there seem to be foreign tourists, or at least people that are looking and behaving very much like foreign tourists. I didn't think any were currently allowed in? I was also subject to a few more snide comments than usual - I detect a little aniti-foreignerism at the moment....

Life involves a level of risk and frankly the level of risk of corona is tiny for all but a few, and if you go out and look around there are plenty of elderly and obese people getting on with life while taking precautions.

Japan isn't verifying or keeping accurate data on covid deaths. The actual numbers are unknown.

In my opinion, short flights while wearing masks is likely lower chance of infection of CV19. Right now, people still riding trains everyday and not much rise in CV19 cases.
