Police in Tokyo said Wednesday that the remains of a man whose car fell off a cliff while driving in April of this year were found in Hinohara village this week and said it was likely that a bear had devoured the victim. Fuji TV reported that shreds of the man's clothes were discovered in the feces of an animal suspected to be a bear in the surrounding mountainous area.
The vehicle was found approximately 23 meters below a cliff after it went off a forest trail in the rural village of Hinohara. The skeletonized body of the male driver was also found near the car.
There have been multiple bear sightings within the vicinity and workers at Hinohara town hall are currently urging residents in the area to be especially vigilant.

Yikes, I've been mountain biking in and around Hinohara. I hope the man had already passed away by the time the bear got to him. RIP.

Seems that they do unless they just like eating clothes.

Bet he wished for a firearm when the bear showed up.

Bears are omnivores. They eat whatever is available.
I've had multiple close (10 ft) encounters in nature with black and brown bears. Being strapped into a vehicle (even if locked with windows up) isn't exactly safe from the larger bears.
I hope this man was already dead. There wasn't much he could do in a confined space without a firearm.
Never run from a bear - any bear. https://www.nps.gov/subjects/bears/safety.htm#Encounters Black and brown bears have different behaviors, so recognizing which you are dealing with will dictate how to react.
