"Cherry blossoms bloomed sooner than ever before," FALSE!
Algernon LaCroix
Alarmist claptrap.
Hervé L'Eisa
Quite a few blatantly false and misleading claims throughout the article. It should be under the category of "Climate Alarmism" aka Fiction.
Both warm and COLD records are broken frequently. In case no one is aware, the RECORD-BREAKING THREE YEAR LA NINA is ending which means a return to warmer conditions in Equatorial region, which will also likely resuly in the strengthening of the Artic Circulation(this is a good thing).

....and just to show solidarity with the people, all government members will stop jetsetting about the planet, and the G7 meeting will be moved to Zoom....

I'll voluntarily cut back on fossil fuel use when the climate change officials stop using private jets, fly commercial, and turn in their private planes and yachts.

I live in California and it has been global cooling this year. Been the coldest winter it has been in decades and it is still cold starting spring. 15 to 18 C during the day and 5 to 8 C at night. Generally always around 24 C during the day at this time of year.

I used to but into this nonsense. If its such a massive problem then let the ones doing the real poluting set the example. Otherwise leave us alone

I don't want to take any responsibility so I will deny it is happening.

Sadly, the Tokyo train news is reporting 黄砂 "yellow sand" from China tomorrow.
Since the Industrial Revolution there is no denying how we have managed to mess up the environment in such a shockingly short time.
The pandemic showed how easily it is to just pull the plug on industry. Pity that couldn't have stayed in place instead of masks.

Climate change is inconvenient to me and I can't grasp it, so I'm looking for ways to make it into a plot by wealthier people to Control me, with an ultimate view to not personally having to do anything about it.

Oh! My God! If Japan is expecting a hotter summer each year, what will Quebec in eastern Canada expect this coming summer? I am a winter person. Every 365 morning days and every evening I take six trays of ice cubes from the fridge, melt them 3 times in a large upright salad bowl to throw over my head and body in the bath. I experience a great thrill that wakes me 100% in the morning and, makes me sleep like a baby in the evening. I am a winter person. OMG! How I love winter and, how I loathe summer. End of January this year I received a letter from Mary Simon Governor General of Canada wishing me a happy ninety-third.

Simply everyone is responsible but some are more responsible than others. I have always tried to keep my footprint low even though there are too many who don't.
Peter Neil
Japan could curb emissions to zero and it wouldn’t change a thing, since China is building two coal plants every week.
ClippetyClop
You should be making it bigger, because some people fly on private jets. We should resist attempts to live on a planet with cleaner air & water despite them being the two most vital things to our very existence.
Someone else can worry about about the planet further down the line. I'm too busy for climate change and people who I don't like believe in it.
ClippetyClop
I agree. We shouldn't be responsible if another person is being irresponsible. My neighbour smokes on her varanda, which is why I throw my used car batteries into the lake.
John
Japan needs more nuclear power stations to deal with the huge energy demand. It’s the cleanest and cheapest way of producing energy. Other methods can’t produce significant quantity and they are too expensive.
Garthgoyle
It's so dang easy to prevent heat stroke, tho. It all comes down to common sense.

So perhaps Japan should engage with the Chinese and come to an agreement, instead of buying bombers, missiles, submarines or whatever Nancy Pelosi is telling Japan to spend 3% of GDP on in readiness for conflict.
Half of all emissions from aviation are from 1% of the population. As George Carlin said, it's a big club and you ain't in it.
Mat
Some amazing comments here.
The simple truth is that the big problems should be solved first.
If you have a million dollars in your pocket, spending time choosing between a $1 chocolate bar and a $1.01 chocolate bar makes little sense.
The problem is that it is hard (read: unprofitable) to actually solve the real problems. And it is easy (and profitable) to solve the small insignificant ones. You can't have a free plastic bag, because the environment, but you have have one for 3 yen because profit.
Shut down the coal fired plants globally, switch to plantbased foods globally and you've just solved a huge amount of the problem.
Go ahead and downvote, I don't mind knowing how many people don't understand the issue.
Mark
It is pointless to even discuss what Japan can do to reduce it's carbon footprint because NO ONE IS LISTENING. Nice to see read an article like this but it means NOTHING when those who are in power are SLEEPING.
Peter Neil
Over 2 billion people still burn dung and coal for cooking and heating.
Good luck enlightening them to save the planet.
It always brings a smile to hear ideas that start out with, "All you gotta' do is..."

All kinds of evidence, for ex.

If its such a huge problem, why dont they lead by example? People who think eating bugs and using a my bag will offset the emissions by massive global corporations might need to have a rethink. Whether climate change is or isnt caused by people is irrelevant, the average joe has 0 power, even if we all take our my bags on every shopping trip and only eat meat once a year at xmas.

Look up research by Judith Curry, President and Founder of Climate Forecast Applications Network and Professor Emerita, Georgia Institute of Technology.
Kim Iversen on her YouTube news show had an amazing interview with her the other day. The sky is definitely NOT falling. And as others have said, the article is FULL of inaccuracies and exaggerations. It's as if the media want to make us perpetually afraid. I feel sorry for the young people.
By the way, FAR more people die of the cold each year. Now where is my jersey?
tora
Indeed. And they will charge you 15 yen for a paper bag now at the foreign foods shop I go to. Used to be free. And if the environment were so important, ALL single-use plastics would be BANNED, right now. But obviously its NOT an important enough problem.
ClippetyClop
The average joe has as much power over his own actions as any other person, and the power of billions of average joes is immense.
Be responsible for yourself and let 'them' worry about 'their' irresponsibility. Lead by example. Being bitter about not being as wealthy as them isn't good for you.
It is very relevant if the problem is to be dealt with, wouldn't you agree?
wallace
Then don't be average or a Joe. We all have power over our lives and we are responsible for the decisions we make. The Buddha said a mountain can be built from millions of small stones.
I have led my adult life for more than five decades. During that time I gave up cars 42 years ago. Lived off the grid for 10 years. Grew my own food.
Ran a food co-op, a workers co-op, and a housing co-op providing whole foods, well-paid work, and decent housing for many people. Help run free food kitchens at outdoor festivals.
Leadership is shown by example.
We don't have to be an average Joe or Mick or whoever.
Alan Omerovic
Well, if the Japanese government/city gov would stop being so negative about having nature in cities, cutting all the trees, concreting and asphalting everything. Then it wouldn’t get as hot as it is now. This is the thing I despise the most about Japan. In addition, people are so uneducated about the benefits of having trees and making cities greener. It’s just sad!! I wonder, is this the only country in the world that seems to hate nature? Lol
ClippetyClop
There is literally nothing more important to life than the planet that we live on. Unless someone has a spare one knocking about somewhere.
If we cannot immediately solve the problem 100% then we should not even bother trying, right?
Do your bit. Lots of bits make lots of difference. You'll feel better about yourself.
GBR48
Luckily, solar works very well in hot, sunny weather. Panels. Everywhere. ASAP.
Be pleased you are in Japan. In the UK, residential aircon is all but non-existent. In hot weather, we just suffer.
quote: ALL single-use plastics would be BANNED, right now.
Nope. Plastic is way down the threat list and will be reduced over time as viable replacements come on stream.
Joseph Zammit
Oh good they are expecting a warm summer. Bring on the heat waves weeeee cannot wait for summer yeah
wallace
If there's no planet then there will be no life, no nothing.
kaimycahl
LOL Tokyo removed all the trees and now they created a concrete jungle with all the high rises with glass windows and they wonder why its so hot. The only tree that is safe in Japan is a Cherry blossom tree.
carpslidy
Taking off masks would be a start

More people are getting sick because of heat stroke because the population is aging so the number of people susceptible to heat stroke is increasing. The highest risk factor for having heat stroke is age.

houses need a sub-basement. Even 1.5m/5ft down temperatures drop off naturally thanks to thermal cooling, the ground being cooler can be tapped into
Peter Neil
And being fat.
sf2k
It's more that people who are older can't afford to turn on the aircon and are not drinking enough fluids. Prone to not take care of the conditions of heatstroke because of poor information about it.
Also those sports days in summer should be cancelled. They typically keep running when in the West they'd be shut down for promoting heatstroke
Peter Neil
The planet had had five mass extinctions that we know of. The next is always on the way.
99% of all species have gone extinct. The sun will run out of fuel, grow and kill everything anyway. We’re just a temporary infestation on the planet.

heat exhaustion vs heat stroke
faint or dizzy // throbbing headache
excessive sweating // no sweating
cool pale clammy skin // red hot dry skin, body temp above 39.4 degrees C
nausea or vomiting // nausea or vomiting
rapid weak pulse // rapid strong pulse
muscle cramps // may lose consciousness
get to a cool air conditioned place // call 911
drink water if fully conscious // call 911
take a cool shower // call 911
cold compress // take immediate action to cool the person until help arrives

Japanese people getting heatstroke in cities devoid of trees. Concrete, bitumen and more heat retaining concrete, it's what the Japanese seem to love, so suffer the consequences.
wallace
In our seaside location, we have fewer problems with the heat than in a city. probably 3-5ºC less than the nearest cities. The sea breeze and open windows,
kurisupisu
The Japanese elites jet all over the world polluting at a rate that the average Japanese person will never ever come close to.
So, why is it that the advice to cut down on power usage comes from institutions headed by these same massive climate polluters?
There’s a massive disconnect here!
Aly Rustom
The worst thing here is that hot summers and cold winters are becoming longer while spring and autumn are getting shorter and shorter.
To prevent deaths from heatstroke, a proposed law would designate certain buildings in communities, such as air-conditioned libraries, as shelters. That kind of law on the national level is new in Japan.
Despite the country's advanced economy, some people cannot afford air conditioning, especially in areas not accustomed to the heat. Schools in northern Japan, such as in Nagano, have installed air conditioning because of the extreme heat in recent years.
"More people have been dying from heatstroke than from river flooding in Japan,” said Hijioka. “We need to view climate change as a natural disaster.
How about longer summer vacations for learning institutes? July and August could be completely off for schools and unis. Or students could study from home. For those who can, working from home is the best thing during the sweltering months.
Peter Neil
Yes, the narrative to make you feel responsible. Gaslighting 101.
