BA.2 subvariant likely represents 90% of coronavirus cases in Japan

Daily new COVID-19 cases totaled 46,267 on Wednesday, up about 6,000 from the previous day, with the capital Tokyo logging 6,052 cases.

Only 90%? It will be more after golden week ends.

Separately, the health ministry said 555 people died at home from January to March when the sixth wave of the coronavirus struck Japan.

This is the real news. Why isn’t this being given more attention and discussed in the media here?

And also very important to know and to understand is this:

Of those, 39 percent had received the second shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.

People should not think that the vaccine protects you from dying.

We get told day in day out from the experts, that the risk of dying and hospitalization is very low if we take the vaccine.

But 39 percent out of 555 people who died, even they are double vaccinated, is very very high.

Never wear a mask but have to walk around all the discarded ones on the ground.

Yes, it’s a fact that the vaccines and the boosters provide minimal protection against Omicron. Even less effective at preventing transmisión. Luckily it is so mild or there would be serious issues.

Yes they should because it does, what the should not do (and anybody with common sense would) is to think anything guarantees 100% protection, and that applies to everything, not only to medical intervtions.

We get told day in day out from the experts, that the risk of dying and hospitalization is very low if we take the vaccine.

Yes, very low compared with non vaccinating, but some people have a really high risk to begin with, so lowering that risk ten or twenty times is still something to take care of.

But 39 percent out of 555 people who died, even they are double vaccinated, is very very high.

Or not, because depending on the demographics the people that conform that 39% could have represented a 95 or 99% of the deaths. Specially because the non-vaccinated people are usually those that are at a very low risk to begin with, vaccines in this case means lowering the risk from the people with preexisting conditions to the level of young healthy people.

Facts that come only from your own beliefs are not really facts, specially when contradicted by actual data from all around the world that proves exactly the contrary. Omicron is still dangerous even to young and healthy people, which still have an important reduction of risk thanks to vaccination.
