Seems somehow fitting that they are reflecting the widely-reported mating habits of their hosts.

I wonder if the pandas difficulty in mating is due to it no longer living in its natural environment. Doesn't China keep them all in closed structures or rented to zoos around the world? Is there a such thing as a wild panda? The behaviors that would have been passed down or influenced by the natural environment are no longer being passed down to the next generation.

In a way, you could can compare it to humans who loose their culture because factors are influencing their ability to pass it on.

Well if that was the first time in four years, 52 seconds was actually a pretty long time.

“We let the two be together at 8:06 a.m. and confirmed they mated for 52 seconds from 8:48 a.m.,” Ueno Zoo announced in a statement.

Damn I have heard of "quickies" but 52 seconds? And timed too?

Even female pandas have to be in the "right frame of mind"? Great article made my day so far to think how a lot of these same ideas apply in human mating.

Maybe 52 seconds is a sexual marathon for a panda.

A public performance of intercourse? I think it's called panda-ing to the crowd.

“Living together could lead to quarrels and wounding each other.” Wow, just like humans.

'52 seconds,"?

I hope the wife doesn't see that, or she's going to get all kinds of marathon-session ideas.

They actually mated, so I'd say its an improvement.

Wow, even panda have become Japanized sexually.

If that's the case, I wouldn't hold my breath for a baby.

Giant pandas are notoriously clumsy at mating, with males said to be bad at determining when a female is in the right frame of mind and often befuddled at knowing what to do next.

Seems somehow fitting that they are reflecting the widely-reported mating habits of their hosts.

Never mind. You were right
