My British friend was due to interview him for a magazine while he was here here in Tokyo but was unable to make it. The interview went ahead with a Japanese guy, but it won't be the interview it would have been if he had done it...and it would have been his last interview.

His old-school funky bass playin' is part of that giant tapestry called "American music".

You did us all proud, Donald "Duck" Dunn...

Loved it when Aretha Franklin got in their face at the greasy spoon in the Blues Brothers movie.

What a tragedy. Given the lack of details in the article, one would speculate he suffered a cardiac arrest or something like that.

The loss of a living legend.

Dunn and Levon Helm reunite!

Still have his music from back in the day on tape, LP's, and now digital. The Duck was the master! Rest in peace and keep it cool!

Accoding to this, he died after playing at the Blue Note on May 12, no cause given, just "died in his sleep."

Only knew of him through the Blues Brothers movie, but he managed to make an impression on me after all these years because when I read this, his image popped right up in my mind. RIP to a man who helped bring a lot of good music into the world.
