Blackout in Kawasaki leaves thousands without power, causes flood

A large-scale blackout hit Kawasaki on Monday, affecting an estimated 89,000 households, police said Tuesday.

According to TEPCO, the blackout started from around 12:50 p.m. in the city's Miyamae Ward. The incident also created a system failure in the water supply, which in turn caused pipes to burst, TBS reported. City officials say that one of the city's parks was flooded as a result.

A TEPCO spokesperson reported that the power outage was caused by equipment failure. Power was restored at about 3:30 p.m.

They are finally coming to the right conclusion. People must experience blackouts to support nuclear power.

As soon as I heard this news, I said to my wife, this is a form of blackmail by TEPCO.

A lot of people around me say the same thing. Knowing what I now know about Tepco, I wouldn't be surprised. Sneaky and underhanded doesn't even begin to describe it.

Japan has no safe guards ANYWHERE if the power goes out it seems.

Power goes out nuclear reactors explode.... pipes burst, people panic.

Backup people!

As soon as I heard this news, I said to my wife, this is a form of blackmail by TEPCO. You don't want the NPP running, ok, there will be intermittent blackouts, especially on the hottest day of the year. This action will force people to change their minds and allow the start up of the NPP.

Yeah, but I'm quite confident there will be no problems when they restart the Niigata NPP.
