Bodies of mother, daughter found in Tokyo apartment

Police said Monday that two women were found dead in government-run accommodation in Tokyo's Toshima Ward on Saturday.

The discovery was made at around 6 p.m. after neighbors reported an odor coming from an apartment. Police entered the residence and found the bodies of a woman in her 70s and another in her 40s. Police said they had passed away several days earlier, TBS reported.

Local authorities believe the women were a mother and daughter who had been living together and had become socially isolated. Police say there were no visible injuries on the women's bodies and that the apartment did not appear to have been ransacked.

Police estimated that the younger woman died around 10 days ago. The mother is thought to have passed away a few days later. Police say they are currently attempting to establish the identities and causes of death of both women.

Sad. Two generations gone in a sad way.

It's sad that in one of the most densely populated cities in the world these people found themselves socially isolated and the only way they were discovered is by the odor of their decomposing body.

that is the way it is here, you can live next to someone and never see them, or meet them..

Hmmm very sad indeed. Just a thought one has to wonder if heat had anything to do with it...

What does "socially Isolated" mean? They had no other family?
