A girl's body was discovered on a beach in Unzen City, Nagasaki Prefecture, on Wednesday evening, and police believe it may be that of a local high school girl who disappeared last month.

The body was discovered by a local walking along the beach. According to police, the name of a local high school girl who went missing on Feb 28, Yuri Tanemura, was written on a notebook inside a pocket of the jacket the body was wearing.

Tanemura was last seen at a bus terminal in the same area of town as the beach, and the following day, her school bag was discovered on a cliff near the ocean. Police believe she may have jumped.

This young woman attended was a 3rd year high school student for the disabled. Her cause of death is drowning by accident. When her body was found, decomposition had already began with some bone exposure on her face.

For more information regarding this tragedy, I found this news site. http://news24.jp/articles/2010/03/24/07155955.html#

The circle of life works in strange ways don't it?....is this simply and tragically a young life prematurely ended, or did this act prevent a future child abuser or neglector or case of infanticide? All in the makers hands to decide. Sympathy to the family is the best I can offer.

Is one of the reasons for high level of suicides in Japan anything to do with the culture not wanting to share their issues with even friends I wonder? I know a lot of them keep to themselves, not wanting to 'bother' others with their troubles. Sometimes sharing can help a lot in relieving that pressure and who knows, a way out maybe found too...

Hopefully the police will investigate and not just assume it was suicide. Poor girl...

Police believe she may have jumped.

That's what we pay them for.

@ Lowly: You're right that we shouldn't speculate over the reason, but regardless, a young girl is prematurely dead, which is the real tragedy here.

Often with my own experience with the Japanese. Living, working, family, partying, growing, studying, business and understanding... many fall through the cracks at a bad day. This is what I truly hate here... bad days or weeks or even months happen. Then again... we never really know what the ***** happened with cops and media. RIP Yuri.

Shouldn't speculate shufu.

Her boyfriend could have dumped her and she could have just been the sensitive dramatic type. Could have been anything.

How awful. These poor high school students have insane amounts of pressure on them.

Jesus what a sad and lonely way to end what could have been a promising life.

poor girl ... no doubt the next thing will be that she has been bullied by students/teachers/beaten at home/struggling with juku. Poor kid.
