The body of a man in his 40s was discovered in a city park in Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture, on Wednesday, police said Thursday. The body was found down a manhole, police said.
According to police, the body is likely that of a man who was reported missing on May 4.
A utility worker discovered the body and called police immediately. Police said they found no sign of a struggle nearby and the body apparently showed no signs of injury. An autopsy report to discover the cause of death is pending.
The man’s family had requested a police search for him earlier this month.
