a "meaningless gesture"

Just getting courts to acknoweldge that it is a problem is actually a great step forward. But they have to keep pushing, since for this acknowledgement to lead to change requires real action - not a meaningless gesture.

It's on the horizon. We won't stop until we achieve full marriage equality, including the right to adopt partners' kids, to visit a partner in the hospital, file taxes as a couple and receive tax benefits, the right to inherit as a family member, and every other right that heterosexual couples just take for granted.

Marriage is an out of date concept based on ownership of a wife. People should be allowed to many anyone or anything they like but there should be no tax or other advantages or disadvantages involved.

Unfortunately, present LDP regime value deep relationship with far-right religious cult who hate LGBTQ or human rights.

All local courts of Japan can ruled unconstitutional, the appeal court or supreme court will make opposition.

Better to move to another country instead of to wait 50 (100years?) for a possible change....

Why would you even oppose this? It's obvious which way the wind is blowing.

"and every other right that heterosexual couples just take for granted."

We never take any of it for granted. It's always valued.

Same-sex marriages hurt no one and make all citizens equal.

So let's see, the fact that there is no mention of same-sex marriage in the constitutional makes the constitution unconstitutional. Rrrrrright.

Just be honest, you want to change the law without going through the hassle of getting the elected representatives to vote for it. It's called 'judicial activism' and it's an absolute travesty of democracy.

Heavily down-voted, but most to the point here. The forms of marriages in Japan has constantly evolved from tsumadoi-kon to muko-in to yome-in to yoriai. It is only natural that obsolete forms will be replaced by forms fitting to the current society. A simple legal contract is all that is needed.
