A Japanese Christian samurai !!! That makes as much sense as a Muslim Jewish bartender.

Although I am not a Romanist...I do like to see credit given where credit is due.

Ok, well go read some history books and if you want, go see the move "Silence" that is in the cinema now

That makes as much sense as a Muslim Jewish bartender.

There probably are several Muslim Jewish bartenders, whose worldview isn't as ossified as some.

Lonelygaijin,

Have you seen the original "Silence"? I have seen the original, but have not yet seen the Martin Scorcese version.

Some would argue that Christianity, at least monotheism in the sense of the Christian God, did not come to Japan in 1549 but rather that since the Japanese people themselves are descendents of the lost tribes of Judah, remnants of the Christian faith can be seen in numerous places in Japanese culture. I would suggest reading "Rediscovering Japan, Reintroducing Christendom: Two Thousand Years of Christian History in Japan" by Samuel Lee

If he is correct, then in 1549 the Romanist church reintroduced Christianity to Japan.

To be sure, this flies in the face of current cosmology that places mans origins somewhere in Africa.

@mt9334, sorry but Japanese cosmology such as imperial family divinity is supposed to predate Jesus by several centuries.

Mans origin in Africa is a whole different topic because ancestors like Lucy are from a time that is thousands of centuries prior to the days of Jesus or Japan's earliest recognized emperors.

The light from a small star shines through from the dark days of centuries ago. In a strange way, I am glad to read such news today. It was not all in vain.

Great article. Interesting. I think the Jews were here long before Christianity. Look at the similarities in the Ark/Omikoshi, and the Outfits, arm and head bands that the imperial family and Shinto priests wear.

And Jesus is buried in Aomori next to the tomb of his brother's ear and Mary's muffin fuzz.

who viewed Christianity as a threat to national security and independence

Smart man. Considering the horrors imposed by Christianity (both Catholic and Protestant varieties) in Europe around the same time, perhaps those who tried to prevent the spread of Christianity in Japan should be celebrated just as much as Takayama.

He is the source of my faith as a Catholic. I come from a history of hiding Catholics. We hide on the island chains to get away from the samurai. My grand Uncle died as a result of the American atomic bombing of Nagasaki which intended or not almost destroyed the mother church in Japan.

@Yuri: In Japanese history, Nagasaki. people were nicknamed kamure kirkishitan ( people hiding they are Christian ) When A bomb was dropped there,, People did not know it was mistake by navigation an thought th end of Japan. Don't think Japanese people forgot faithfully resisted Nagasaki Christians.

@Torafusu Torasan,

You wrote, "sorry but Japanese cosmology such as imperial family divinity is supposed to predate Jesus by several centuries. "

Agreed. But, if you look back at my post you would realize that I referred to the Christian God, as in the Father, and not the Son, who was incarnated in Jesus a little over 2000 years ago.

Moreover, Christianity asserts that NOTHING predates Adam. Whether the claim is true is another point...

@MsDelicious, You wrote, " I think the Jews were here long before Christianity. Look at the similarities in the Ark/Omikoshi, and the Outfits, arm and head bands that the imperial family and Shinto priests wear." EXACTLY my point. Christianity began with Jesus. The Christian God, of which both Jews and Christians worship is one and the same.

Christianity Like all man made reLIEgions are inventions designed to keep people in fear and allows the so called reLIEgious leaders to have mindless sheeple look up to them as they have for countless civilizations. Very few people dare to questions anything they have been spoon fed to believe and most would never even entertain the possibility that everything we have been taught is a lie.

mt: Christianity did not begin with Jesus. Jesus was a Jew. Christianity was brought about by Paul after Jesus' death.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

MsDelicious,

Would not have Christianity begun when Jesus was still alive and people began to follow Him?

Followers of Jesus make up the Christian movement, both while Jesus walked the earth, and after.

I always thought it was St. Peter that founded the Mother Church.

YuriOtani,

Was Peter a follower of Christ? Of course he was. If, as you write, St. Peter founded the church, then it was a follower of Christ that began the church.

I do thank you for your important contribution to this discussion.

Peter was a Jew and thought that Jesus was the messiah. He got others to believe that and thus they split from the Jews as the Jews did not and still do not believe he was.

After war, Pressure to destroy Yasukuni went strong in JSA by people who thought it is a grave. So, Gen Mac announced it would be horse racing business place. Then Popeye protested and opposed. The plan disappeared. There are many Cases Catholic helped Japan.

MsDelicious,

What is "Messianic Judaism"?
