With a 3 1/2 dog win -one can truely "relish" in victory. -but it was a hard-frank battle.

Ever since the injury Kobayashi has been off physically and mentally. -Will he ever get his confidence back and ketchup to Joey "Jaws" Chestnut. Only time will tell if Kobayashi can pass the mustard and win once again.

Pretty soon NK will be lobbing hot dogs at Japan once again. Kobayashi better be hungry!

Gluttany of the moment: -These are two competitors that you do not say "would you like to SuperSize that" to.

The Nathans crinkle-cut fries are better than the hotdogs. -IMHO, but can be a tad salty. Many of the NY,NJ,PA+ highway and tollway rest areas have a Nathans.

There are two things I never miss on 4th of July; The fireworks, and the hotdog eating contest. I'm not particularly a fan of hotdogs knowing what parts of the beast go into the grinder, but watching these fools is simply hilarious.

I do believe Kobayashi has said that this would be his last Hotdog competition...

also to note, he did beat Chestnut recently in a pizza eating competition...

Wow, you know a country is in trouble when its media has to report on the yearly apperance of its champion hot dog eater. Way to go Japan, way to go Japan Today, keep finding those role models that the youngsters can look up to.

Did any of you actually watch it? It was quite gross in my opinion seeing food bits and liquids squirming out of their mouths and nose(?). Certainly made me lose my appetite for hotdogs for a very long time. Bring on the Burgers!!

Sorry to say this, but I have absolutely no respect whatsoever for these, "athletes". In both countries (i.e. US and Japan) where food waste is just rampant, it shows how little we compassion we have for the starving millions.

Anyway, what a stupid contest. I wonder how many of the fans in the audience considered it to be America vs. Japan and cheered an American victory? Or, to ask another way, how many nationalistic red-neck morons were in attendance?

I remember there was a guy name " Giant" in Japan. He competed in all kinds of eating contest in Japan. Beat Kobayashi easily and all other competitors in Japan a while back. I never seen him lose a match. I hope the "Giant" could go to US and prove he s the champ.

USA: Surrender the Mustard Belt or we shall take it back by force. -->Send in the Sumo brigade! We can win this match by sheer numbers, size and hunger. (better add a few notches to that belt)

That is gross. At first, after having watched how popular this appalling "sport" is here in Japan, I thought this phenomenon was limited to only Japan and the U.S. But having perused the Internet, I've learned that ranking second to the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest, is the World Nettle-Eating Championship in Dorset, England. In third is the Oyster Eating races in Bluff, New Zealand, followed by the World Calimari Eating Championship in Michigan, and then the World Championship Haggis eating competition in Scotland. There is even an international federation of eaters! Wow!

The food wasted on this competition is pretty insignificant. If you are that bothered by the food wasted in the Nathan's contest then you should be boycotting just about every food service establishment in existence.

You missed their point. I believe they were talking about the amount of food thrown out at the average food service establishment.
