Ask China to stop the discharge of the far more radioactive water from its own nuclear power plants.

Good move by China!

Maybe finally we will know how bad the situation is.

Your hopes and dreams are going to be dashed.

19 ( +24 / -5 )

Never let those waters slip into other places! Great move.

-25 ( +4 / -29 )

And when they find nothing?

Are they going to admit it?

22 ( +25 / -3 )

China not so diligent in finding the source of the Corona/Covid outbreak, which killed many thousands.

22 ( +26 / -4 )

China and their political games.

More and more they are losing trust and interest of the world.

Anyway China should check their own waste water release and stop spraying areas green to show how environmental friendly they are.

I learned from Sakurasuki to include links.

China . . . The country that gave the world Covid killing millions of people around the world and did nothing to stop it is now pretending to be pure and innocent.

Ridiculous! Why on earth would Japan export radioactive water to China?!

11 ( +15 / -4 )

I don’t know about this at all so I’m asking. Is there a possibility the readings could be corrupted by a vessel’s previous trips?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

They’ll only find that the Japanese ballast water is far less radioactive than Chinese seawater and they know it. Keep wasting your time, China.

14 ( +17 / -3 )

Wise thing to do. Just can’t assume it’s safe.

-10 ( +5 / -15 )

Also this -

Ballast water is usually discharged from ships when cargo is carried onto them. Local authorities in China have notified operators that they will ban them from releasing ballast water at Chinese ports if the radiation levels in their samples exceed a certain limit, but so far no such instances have been reported, the sources said.

I’m with those who suspect nothing will be found.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Why the drama??, China as any other country have the right to do it, any country would do it, these are their policies and they need to check that water, like us or not..

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

What a waste of time

12 ( +14 / -2 )

OTT.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

""There have been no reports of major disruptions to trade processing or cargo transportation due to the checks and the Japanese government is gathering relevant information, the sources said.""

And life goes on.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Let China waste its resources for ridiculous, political reasons.

As others have said, they should concentrate on their own faults, such as COVID and being the world's worst polluter by far, but they won't as then Xi might "lose face."

China not so diligent in finding the source of the Corona/Covid outbreak

They were "diligent"... but unfortunately only in the realm of welding people into their homes, locking them inside burning/earthquake-stricken buildings, and beating dogs to death with shovels.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Political posturing, nothing more.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Chinese government and Xi's power is in free fall because the economy is spiraling and youth unemployment is skyrocketing.

When things are getting bad, authoritarians like to stoke nationalistic ferver at a historic enemy either real or perceived to distract the people from corrupt/incompetent leadership.

The world is not buying China's hypocrisy.

"Nothing to see here!"

Its simple for Japan to counter act.

Just show to China "International Atomic Energy Agency" Watchdog approval to discharge Fukushima Water after Technical Cleaning to UNDER MINIMUM acceptable levels!

China, before saying something of great importance, should be able to prove or check! Or China intentions is to blame any Japan act?

Geez China...instead of crucify Japan of a result of a calamity (earthquake)...try to help. No help? Just sanctions? Ok...Japan understand the message and knows what You want!

No doubt China will "find" something to suit their narrative.

No doubt China will "find" something to suit their narrative.

100% never let reality get in the way of a good narrative. Ships full of seawater is just gold. Do what you do China, keep doing it actually. You show the world something very special!

I stay with Japan side even if China finds Godzilla...!

LoL

Are you serious!?!? You trust China more than Japan!?!?!? LOL You must be CCP brainwashed!!!

Totally off topic

Covid19 pandemic wasn't caused by Fukushima or have anything to do with the article

Indeed. (And let's not mention what country was the biggest culprit in spreading it all over the world...)

Maybe finally we will know how bad the situation is.

why the IAEA is supervising the water release, so its either you believe the IAEA will report the truth or you can take your chances with the CCP, your choice

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Have them clear the Ballast tanks from all the local ships, float them up to their own power plants, and then do it.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

So far, there has been a lot of skepticism towards the Chinese Communist Party's announcements, right? Why?

Is it because China's basis is emotional and not based on scientific figures?

Is it because they are the second largest contributor to the IAEA after the United States, but do not have their own nuclear power plants inspected and are still discharging large amounts of radioactive waste?

Is it because it has become known that they produce numbers that are completely different from the actual economy, such as coronavirus and flood victims and GDP?

However, when it comes to historical issues, the Cultural Revolution and Tiananmen are ignored, and the damage caused by the Nanjing Massacre and Unit 731 are exaggerated, but when it comes to historical issues, I think there are many people who believe what China says. I can't understand it.

I don't even think Fukushima has significant shipping. Where else would radioactive ballast water even be picked up?

But checking ballast water seems like the smart thing to do from any ship in the world. I am surprised this is not standard operating procedure everywhere. There are many problems with ballast water though I don't think radioactive particles are likely to ever be detected short a global catastrophe, at which point, checking will be useless.
