Oh no!

Quarantining everything and everyone coming out of Japan will be next.

it may signal a scary message to China over Japanese tourists from today ...

If you are Japanese, getting decontaminated upon entering a foreign country should be expected. Hey, at least they don't have to wait in line to get x-rayed.

I do not know what to think of this news and I do not trust any news coming out from the communist propaganda machine there in China.

I'm sure every person in Tokyo would register abnormal levels of radiation on their bodies now

pair’s radiation levels were found to “seriously exceed” levels considered safe

The pair presented no radiation risk to others

So which one is it?

bicultural: perhaps it was considered unsafe for THEMSELVES and not others. Hard concept to understand, I suppose, but then there will always be those who get upset at the mere mention of Chinese claiming something from Japan is tainted.

Fact is, Japan needs to get used to this. Or rather, people coming from Japan (regardless of nationality) and going elsewhere. There are going to be radiation scans and spikes, and likewise products coming from Japan are going to be halted. It's a mess, but we have no one but the nation itself to blame. Sadly, it's going to get worse long, long before it gets better.

the chinese are really trying to kick japan whilst its down...i don't believe any statements from them, esp when they refuse to give any facts or numbers ..."seriously exceeding" ..what a joke

For a sensitive issue that could stir up widespread panicking sentiment, do not rely on any government al body in giving the truth without hesitation. The Chinese government was probably trying to convey a mild message to its nationals -- radioactive contaminations are under control & checked, do not worry -- When people started stocking up iodized salt last week..and staple food this week..Everyone is concerned & sharing the hardship suffered by some of our Japanese families..

China, truth. Two words which can never be used in the same sentence.

If not radiation poisoning, tt will be interesting to see what the couple is being treated for when and if they ever do return to Japan. It was the chance that you knowingly take for destination China, though. And screening should also be done at Narita to address other countries legitimate concerns.

"the chinese are really trying to kick japan whilst its down...i don't believe any statements from them, esp when they refuse to give any facts or numbers ..."seriously exceeding" ..what a joke"

Laughable. China has offered massive assistance in relief aid, along with providing rescue professionals. Hardly what I would call kicking japan whilst down.

Japan, radiation. Two words which can now always be used in the same sentence.

the two Japanese tourists were given medical treatment when they arrived in Wuxi, a city close to Shanghai, from Tokyo on Wednesday. The pair presented no radiation risk to others, it said.

..................................

If China wants to kick Japan while she is down, China could have deported/denied entry to the pair. Instead they were treated and released. Now, if these were Chinese tourists arriving at Narita, what do you think the authority would do ? What would readers of JT do ?

people all over china are raising funds for japanese relief. i know of some chinese who've donated thousands of dollars. for everyone getting down on china, ask yourself what you've done to help the japanese victims? i just read that some of the shelters have positive banners posted that say "remember you're still alive" and so forth but negative comments i've been reading are the exact opposite of what people need right now. let's be better.

I'm not going to say anything affirmative about the Chinese govt., but were these tourists released from hospital ? There were no further updates to indicate so.

China offered to help on a massive scale, but it was Japan who was reluctant to accept due to pride issues.

These countries are neighbors, so setting aside national agendas for the sake of saving lives should be the right approach here.

Japan immediately responded to the Sichuan earthquake with a dispatch of rescue professionals.

China is returning the favor.
