Chinese man files suit over harassment at immigration center

Ridiculous, nothing this man has said indicates undue 'harassment' or discriminatory behavior by immigration officials towards him.

I was thinking there might have been some merit to his claim, maybe he was beaten or forced to stand outside under the blazing sun for hours. But nope, scant details means he is one of those perpetual 'victims' who always seeks to blame others for their own wrongdoings.

He overstayed, he's being punished. Grow up!

I'm willing to bet there's more incidences like this considering the previous cases of foreigners suffering and being abused in detention centers.

Placing food and outdoor shoes in the same container might not be seen as an insult to most westerners but to an Asian it shows a marked lack of respect.

My question would be if the prison guard were giving the same items to a Japanese would be do the same?

Well for starters he violated the law by staying in country after permission had been revoked. Prison or detainment by law enforcement sucks plain and simple, if your being held your a criminal, regardless of how things operate in your home country! People fail to realize this is not their country and that the Japanese have a certain way things are done, his problem could have been avoided had he left the country like he was supposed to plain and simple. He didn't get beat or subjected to anything cruel, he may have been disrespected but hey in the eyes of the Japanese he's a criminal, and he's not Japanese! He should be thankful Japan doesn't deport the whole family for the sheer fact they knew he was violating the law.

What next, he'll probably sue because his feelings were hurt too. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time

Canned fruits were together with his shoes? LOL. The cans probably been through much dirtier places during storage and shipments.

As a person who was deported, lost my job and bonus, all my furniture and forced to pay for my plane ticket at short notice...and lost my partner...japan is a little harsh.

Yes, detainees, like anyone else, need to be treated with respect. For the officers to bring his food with his shoes is disrespectful and inhumane. However, for this guy to sue for harassment and get money is way beyond belief. As for the Japanese immigration officers, if they're going to deport for breaking immigration laws, then deport quickly.

The Chinese guy can stay in Japan until the court decides on his case. And if the court decides against him he could appeal the decision and stay on in Japan even longer. What a smart move!

That might be true, but he would still be locked up.

Yeah.... and I sure foreigners get excellent treatment in China. People overstay their Visa just for the treatment and great accommodations.

Seems like the world treats detainees poorly...what a surprise.

Wish the USA would deport people overstaying and breaking laws in a similar manner. Go Japan!

I don't understand how canned food and shoes in a box is a problem. The food is inside cans, so it isn't a hygiene issue. Just think about all the insects and rats that ran all around those cans in the different warehouses. The shoes are the least of the issues.

If facing certain deportation, I would think a person would ask for it to be carried out quickly - unless there were adverse circumstances waiting in the home country. Being in detention in Japan is surely worse than living free in almost any country.
