Well, don't forget to fund daycares. They will surely be needed when those kids are born.

A bunch of over the hill men sitting around studying ways to get women to have more children... If nobody sees the problem with this the current situation will never change.

How about funding a program assisting the women after birth. There are lots of cases of negligence and PPS resulting to injury and worse death on young children. Class/seminar/training for young mothers-to-be can also be helpful.

Good the Japanese ethnic group (not a race obviously) may just survive into the next century.

Using pubic money for something that at best has no more than a 30% success rate. NOT a good idea.

If the country were afflicted with some plague that affected young women and made childbirth in the twenties/early thirties inadvisable, this freezing-eggs-for-later thing might be feasible; but if women are putting off childbirth simply because it isn't convenient right now, then public money should absolutely not be being spent to cater to their whims. Parenthood isn't something you do because it's convenient. It's literally a lifetime commitment, and frankly, if you're not prepared to make the commitment, then you're not ready to be a parent.

If you decide later that you are ready, but the egg bank has dried up, there are any number of kids in care just waiting to be part of a family. When the orphanages and children's homes are empty, then we can start messing around with test tubes.

Nothing to do with 'selfishness' (what is that anyway really?). Selfishness is always putting your own convenience above others. Being disappointed you can no longer flit about all day because of some responsibility. Surprised you don't know the word. It's fairly common.

What I was inferring was, isn't selfishness just a reflection of a lack of self-love and consideration? These women who abuse and kill their children have probably lived lives with a serious lack of self-respect and love - people are not born abusers and killers.

Ah, it's the husband's fault for being at work all day earning the money to pay for everything. Got it. A generation or two ago, there was far less support in pretty much every country. It's a wonder you and I made it in to the world with all the regular baby killing going on.

Yes, but past generations had closer ties with extended family and the local community, and life was a lot less complicated.

That and you have serious mental health issues which go unnoticed and/or ignored. So there is a higher proportion of "mental illness" (another overused umbrella term) in the current generation of Japanese women, compared with any other generation of any other nationality?

I would hypothesis that yes, there is a higher rate of serious and unchecked mental illness in Japan - some cultures and societies are more stressful and lack support than others. Japan is one such country/culture no question of that.

? Reason ..?

This is such a stupid way to encourage more babies. How about increasing daycare, paid maternity leave and more support money for expensive schools and uniforms!?

FoolFilterJUN. 17, 2016 - 12:35PM JST There are lots of cases of ... PPS resulting to injury and worse death on young children. No there's not. Just a bunch of selfish mothers killing their babies. The PPS excuse has far too much support in this forum.

Nothing to do with 'selfishness' (what is that anyway really?). Too many stressed Japanese mothers receive too little support from family (especially husbands), government and society in general. That and you have serious mental health issues which go unnoticed and/or ignored.
