so consumers may expect some discount in electricity prices? Of course Not, not in Japan.

Sad.

I have solar panels on my roof and never pay for electricity

Exactly and in any case of any bad disaster happening you will never have to flea and lock down your area because of your solar panels getting crazy and it will not cost billion of yen and years to clean the mess. I guess those in charge of the country and the laws want to see Japan flooded by radioactive contamination in the future otherwise why allowing Nuclear Plant to be installed in Fault lines ?

Goverment self-interest first, safety second, people third. The result of an apathetic voting public!

A disaster just waiting to happen.

With so much money being invested in this reactors there is no logical way to keep them shut down indefinitely so the >>reactor must run and produce for the benefit of Japan and Kensai power company.

Thanks for pointing that it is all about money and wealth of the few including that power company, there is certainly another logical way than playing Russian roulette on a fault lines waiting for the next Fukushima to happen.

All branches of government, including the corporations, are steaming ahead with haste now. Resistance is futile.

so now you know who the courts serve.

Sure seems like a lot of money and risk just to boil water.

Meanwhile, it was admitted last week that it will now take at least 50 years to decommission the Fukushima plant, they have no idea where the fuel is, and have zero clue as to how much it will cost save that it will be in the trillions, and all that is IF they develop the needed technology in the future, and there are no other disasters in the area to make things worse. But so long as Kansai Electric makes a profit, right? They'll be spouting the usual, "We couldn't have known" when Ohi melts down.

it was always just a matter of when, not if. so just start the rest of them and stop this facade.

These reactors must restart if Japan is to meet any commitments made at COP21 to reducing emissions. The reactor openings are also a great boon to Japanese energy security and balance of payments. It still looks like about half of Japanese reactors will never reopen, because post-Fukushima modifications to to them will be too expensive.

so what are the reactors new estimates on earthquake risks, their new safety standards and their new credible evacuation measures? The courts merely were told what to do. Not make a judgement. Without actual change lead by reason and science Japan cannot grow

Sadly replacements exist that would put actual people to work and allow for Japan to chart its own energy course. But such measures require vision and an entrepreneurial fighting spirit beyond the old ways. It does exist but it cannot get through all the layers of deceit. This just delays Japan even more.

25psotDEC. 24, 2015 - 11:08PM JST so the reactor must run and produce for the benefit of Japan and Kensai power company??

Who disagree with this outcome may cut all power to the house or business and live like a caveman for the benefits of green Earth.

(Though it's taken me several years to achieve this, I'm no longer using the electrical grid and 30 to 40 amps is enough to power everything in my small home. Can you give an examples of those who live like cavemen in Tokyo or that just your way to try an insult someone who's not using nuclear energy?)

If I were to post something longer and more meaningful here, there is a 0.01% chance that it would offend someone or be misunderstood and subsequently deleted. That policy chills debate and discussion. Self censorship is still censorship.

So I will post short quips. Three syllable words. Four sentences tops. Here goes.

Barring any feasible option aside from a nuclear, coal or oil baseload today, and barring a strong desire to throw money at power companies to induce them to switch to LNG, getting the nuclear plants powered up looks like a really good deal for all.

All of the greens who have lined up against nuclear need to look in a mirror at the smudgy coal supporters they have become.

And consider, do we want power companies using plants that we KNOW will be obsolete in 20 years, to be replaced then by (probably green) plants, or do we want them to dump nuclear now and replace them with fossil fuel burners that will last for another 50 years?

Green types should be THRILLED that power companies are bothering with nuclear when they have all these cheap fossil fuels to choose from.
