Each time we’re told the new variant is more contagious than the last. So u catch it opening an email now? Seriously we weren’t born yesterday.

I found it odd that they were taking temps again upon entry to a big hospital I visit monthly, something they haven’t done for months. I had noticed an approximate doubling of sirens just before the increasing numbers started coming out. Haven’t read the comments or the rest of JT or other Japan news but, I saw on international news that there are at least two new variants in the U. S. and Asia.

Lots of young people dying after being vaccinated.

Lots of people dying who are vaccinated especially of course in places where vaccination rates are high.

If vaccination rate is 100% everyone who dies are vaccinated

Data/stats? Not looking for a MSM article that muddies the waters, I need to see proof.

Lol you believe in a lot of things with no proof

I’m sorry to hear.

My 40 year old healthy friend with 2 babies died suddenly last month, 3 weeks after omicron.

was your friend vaccinated? Lots of young people dying after being vaccinated. My brother has long Covid, four times vaccinated.

The thing with this sort of thing was, sudden death after vaccination was always attributed to coincidence, where as, sudden death after Covid is ALWAYS COVID’s fault. You can’t have it both ways. Sad to lose any life prematurely from vaccination or infection.

Statistical outlier. Out of like twenty-two million cases, under 500 people in their forties have died from/with Covid. Here's some data for ya:

https://www.ipss.go.jp/projects/j/Choju/covid19/index-en.asp

There's been a huge increase of sudden strokes and heart attacks in young people following mild covid infections.

Got some stats? Because, say for example, if it jumped from .0000001% to .0000002%, that's not relevant.

latest estimates of around 5% of patients developing long-term problems we will have to deal with the fallout of this pandemic for years to come.

Data/stats? Not looking for a MSM article that muddies the waters, I need to see proof.

But yeh, some good those vaccines did if this is still how people feel about the situation, huh!!!

No blood to brain. There's been a huge increase of sudden strokes and heart attacks in young people following mild covid infections. Covid is now being recognized as a long term cardiovascular disease.

The epidemic is dead - long live the pandemic.

Haruo Ozaki, chairman of the Tokyo Medical Association, implored people to get a fourth and fifth shot.

It is what the experts advise.

I do follow an advice he gave near the start of the pandemic, but I'll ignore this latest one.

Each uptick is larger than the last, which means, this winter could be very high case count.

Initial waves were very small, affecting only a tiny fraction of the population. But with about 20 million confirmed infections of omicron, this likely means that the majority of people have been infected. I expect future waves to be milder and smaller.

That's not gonna happen. I haven't even gotten the first one, never will.

Before the onslaught of tourists, COVID-19 was still very much with us. It was with us when Sugita opened the door to foreign tourists.

The information I'm getting from the U.S. is that not one is wearing masks and flight attendants and their passengers aren't wearing masks either. This is something to worry about.

What has consistently puzzled me has been the continuing presence of COVID-19 in Japan. We all wear masks here. We try to keep safe distance (which tends to go to the Devil at sales--and neither I gotten anything from that) . We all have our shots. What's wrong with us here? Crowded trains? Cheap bars and and eateries? Romance? Something else?

My last thought for today. Resident foreigners and scholars and others should have been let in a long time ago. But group tours are still very risky.

Experts say it is due to the influx of foreign tourists not wapearing masks and not adhere it to social distancing rules.

What did these "experts" attribute the highest case loads in the world to, when the borders were closed and everyone wore their masks and got quadruple vaxxed like good little sheeple???.....oh dear...

Covid usually declines for 8-10 weeks, before an uptick again in cases.

Each uptick is larger than the last, which means, this winter could be very high case count.

Does not mean the end of the world, massive death, etc. but there will likely be blame on the the relaxation of the borders. Look at history to predict the future.

This time, due to the poor state of the economy, the borders will remain open indefinitely. Japan needs as much inbound money now as possible. Expect, tax/duty free shopping to slowly fade away for now, as govt needs that 10% from the tourists to help pay for their silly so called economic booster campaigns every 3 months.

maybe they'll start blaming the October border opening on this...

COVID-19 cases increase in Japan for 1st time in 2 months

An upward trend, which cannot be argued against.

And the numbers are going to jump even higher when the 8th wave arrives in a month and a half or so.

December would be a good time to head back home.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Media will connect these to foreigners because it creates something to talk about.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Err, winter and open borders can’t effect the lack of testing. Fake news, not.

You had me at 'experts'. Funny stuff.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

I agree. Enough with all the fearmongering. If they want to impose a PROPER SOE and close the schools down and make everyone work and study form home, as someone who works 6-7 days a week, I would welcome it. However, if they are not going to do that they should stop screaming about new waves. Plus, its only natural new waves will appear as the weather gets colder.

@theResident

@ian: Breezed through Haneda last night. Off the plane at 16:45 - on the 17:13 train WITH check in. Busy, but all coping very well now as long as you do the Fast Track in the SOS app.

Good to know, thanks

And you need to stop your hysterical rantings about it being a 'cold' @Sanji.

There is no fear mongering. Just being reported in the news. I've just been in the UK and the rise in cases there is also mentioned on the TV and in the newspapers every day with the NHS just this week having prepared a 'war room' for what is expected to be a very busy winter with an inevitable wave of Covid and Flu expected.

You just repeat the same mantra because you seem to think you have some God given right to come and visit Japan without playing by their rules.

Life goes on as normal.

Let's count the flu sbc common cold too. #metoo

And let the fear mongering begin.

By this time probably only the ones who keep repeating this are afraid

And let the fear mongering begin.

Pretty much everyone is set in their ways and thinking by now.

No more restrictions (or are any ?)

Health care system should be able to handle any situation already

Let's see what happens

The efficacy of a vaccine, as well as natural immunity following an infection, is said to wane over the span of a few months.

With some data calculating that less than 50 percent of people in their 60s and younger may have resistance to the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron subvariants, Haruo Ozaki, chairman of the Tokyo Medical Association, implored people to get a fourth and fifth shot.

The current vaccines are not designed for the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants on top of which for the overall majority of people the symptoms range from mild to non existent. Japan needs to move on from the hysteria and stop reporting colds !

It's getting to winter, Flu cases will rise too. Stop wasting website space in this non story. Move on.
