In the UK, the Delta (aka Indian) variant is running rife regardless whether you'd had 1, 2 or more shots of a vaccination. It seems that "Shots" of another form, may do more good - at least you'd be happy.

There's even now a Moscow variant... but not the Mule type.

Eventually, it will mutate again such that none of the existing vaccinations will work against it, and we're back to square one again. Perhaps, its time to prepare for that inevitability - stock up on face masks, etc. whilst they're still available.

I won´t be "needed"

Agreed, good point.

COVID-19 state of emergency may be needed during Tokyo Olympics

I won´t be "needed", but I am confident Koike will come up with something like that, if for no other reason to appease the virus fanatics.

Olympics must be canceled before tragedies start.

"MAY" need??? I am still laughing!! Japan WILL have a state of emergency!!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Why not give vaccines to people instead? I heard that other countries have been doing that.

The article lacks in details but this "study" does not seem to be scientifically robust at all.

If you don't have the details that means you have no idea how robust the study is, that is something you can only judge with the details of the methodology, A collaboration between two universities well known for their study of infectious diseases and epidemiology together with the NIID don't just pull things out of thin air to make presentations.

A better description

If the Delta variant, which is thought to be 1.8 times more transmissible than the original strain of the coronavirus, has a large impact, a state of emergency could become necessary again in early to mid-July.

There was a 10 person cluster of the Delta variant last week and it never increased beyond the 10 people.

Whether they are doing genome test is unknown but considering the aversion to testing or mitigation

it is safe to think nothing is being done. No variant even from outer space will have an effect here. Everything

will be done that it does not appear in the radar.

There is still time to kill this pandemic benighted Olympics. Yes, there is a danger that the pandemic will cause a medical tsunami in Japan. No matter how careful everyone is, in not unlikely that the Olympians will bring the pandemic home to Mom and Dad.

If Tokyo saw 1,000 or more new infections per day, then a return to a state of emergency would be warranted, they said.

How will Tokyo see 1,000 or more infections when it is testing 2-3 thousand a day. Won't

happen.

Now that the delta/India version has arrived on our shores, state of emergency should last until October at least.

COVID-19 state of emergency may be needed during Tokyo Olympics:

Doesn't the SOE mean that people should stay away from crowds, go out only if necessary and definitely social distance?

Doesn't the Olympics means, crowds, go out every day for 16 days and definitely socialize with everyone as much as possible.

Hmmm, kind of sounds like a contradiction to me.

WAIT...........this is Japan. They love doing counterproductive things.

GO FO IT!!!!!

Oh go ahead, just order everyone to stay home during the Olympics as the Olympics are more important to the government than life itself. Jobs have been lost, people have committed suicide but what’s another month or two to save a two-week sporting event. No big deal tight Suga?

This will displease the leaders of Japan, i.e. Messrs. Coates and Bach

Why?

But there will not be a big increase until after the Olympics is finished ( IOC) have arranged

The team also said the number of infections could increase by 10,000 cumulatively if the sports event from July 23 is held with spectators, compared with the case without spectators, according to a document shown at a meeting of an expert panel of the health ministry.

Pretty optimistic estimate.

Is this at half capacity?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Yes. I agree that a real STATE OF EMERGENCY is needed. That means to cancel the Pandemic Olympics.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

So create a State of Emergency for the games. The taxpaying citizens and residents of Japan have their movements restricted so the IOC and NBC can make their profits.

Neither the Japanese Government nor the IOC care one bit about the Japanese public and residents of Japan. And to make it worse our taxes now and future taxes will support this boondoggle.

another state of emergency may be needed during the Tokyo Olympics

If that real happens, the public will be very angry.

Their lives and income will be restricted again just to hold the Olympics.

Amazing Japan . Delta varian more infectious worldwide but no problem Japan is different , no effect here especially when hosting the Olympics. Japan doesn’t rig the figures of course, they just don’t do contact tracing and don’t test, and deny testing as much as possible. No better way in the world to reduce covid cases than not testing. No rigging figures. The question is can they manage to pull this off till after the Olympics.

Ooooooh they needed a study to realize that?

No the study is necessary to objectively prove it with scientific evidence. Not that it would matter to the government but at least the health care professionals will know what is coming.

could increase by 10,000 cumulatively if the sports event from July 23 is held with spectators

Surely, if held with less-than-half capacity and with spectators strictly wearing masks, can it reach 10,000 daily cases? Just wondering
