The first of many places to recognise equal rights in marriage in Japan I hope.

If people love each other, let them. The world needs more love, less division and hate.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

The world does need more love but dressing like a woman is just weird. Doesn't mean I hate him. Just disagree with his lifestyle and that is only my opinion. As we all have opinions. Imagine a world if we all thought the same way, such a boring life!

-4 ( +14 / -18 )

@Mark

"Doesn't mean that I hate him."

Very gracious of you. Why bother posting?

4 ( +13 / -9 )

@MarkG: The world does need more love but dressing like a woman is just weird. Doesn't mean I hate him. Just disagree with his lifestyle and that is only my opinion. As we all have opinions. Imagine a world if we all thought the same way, such a boring life!

Aren't your two statements entirely irreconcilable Mark? How can you disapprove of something as being 'just weird' (out of the ordinary, not in the mainstream of life), but at the same time say that we should appreciate your minority opinion because it represents a diversity of thought which makes the world less boring? A bit of a double standard there isn't it?

6 ( +11 / -5 )

MarkG

Just disagree with his lifestyle

The point is , you don't have to agree or disagree with her lifestyle.... it's her lifestyle and not your's. And what she does has totally got nothing to do with you life.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

M3M3M3"..at the same time we should appreciate your minority opinion"

You may be surprised but in some countries this opinion represents majority of people.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

@yamashi

You're right Yamashi, but the operative word there is 'some'. How many of the countries on that list would most of us want to live in? People in Europe and around the world like Conchita Wurst, her message is very positive.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

@noypikantoku

By degenerating society his lifestyle negatively affects every sane person. He isn't a woman, he's a man with a mental disorder known as gender dysphoria (recognized as such by the American Psychological Association).

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

Illyas

By degenerating society his lifestyle negatively affects every sane person.

Tell me, how people like her affect your life negatively?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

She (Conchita) would IMHO look much better without the beard BUT then she would lose the 'shock and awe', in her platform that she work on. Don't get me wrong, as a guy, I don't do facial hair either and armpit hair is really not needed anymore unless you still live in a cave and go 'clubbing' in the old literal sense. Body hair in general is so not needed in today's modern world. That's what clothes and indoor climate control are for but I guess some still choose to hold onto the hairy ape within themselves. To each their own thing then. Makes for an interesting world.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

but at the same time say that we should appreciate your minority opinion because it represents a diversity of thought which makes the world less boring?

but his opinion isn't in the minority. i would say it's the majority opinion around the world. conchita has every right to live that way, and mark have every right to disagree with it.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I like him he has skills a good voice and a positive message

Let's recall all the previous gay and lesbian music stars, too long a list to start here.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

lucabrasi- how could disagree mean hate? I think we need more love in the world, you seem to think we all need to agree.

Well, I like women, will gays hate me for that? NO! Just as I don't hate gays for loving same gender. I have gay friends, I don't try to change them, they don't try to change me. I like vanilla ice cream, I don't hate you if you like red bean ice cream. Enjoy, I'll enjoy mine.

WE DO need more love in this world. It should start with understanding no everyone will agree with our individual opinions.

My point is it's okay to disagree, it's human to have your own opinion. It's also controlling to expect all to believe as you own. Open minds are the avenue to reduce hate.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Nakanoguy

but his opinion isn't in the minority. i would say it's the majority opinion around the world. conchita has every right to live that way, and mark have every right to disagree with it.

The huge difference is, Conchita's cross dressing and sexuality won't affect the "majority's lives" These Mojority can still live their lives the way they want them to be no matter what Conchita's lifestyle or sexuality is.... However the negative and hateful thoughts of the "Majority" affects the life of Conchita as well as the others' who are like her to live the life that they want to.

Mores, norms, gender roles all exist for a good reason. When the prevailing philosophy adopted by society is 'you only live once' and 'do whatever makes you happy', you're looking at the death of what once made that society great. What values built Rome, Britain, the Untied States, etc into world powers? And what values did those powers adopt prior to their fall? I don't view this issue in isolation, but as an ongoing trend towards nihilism and other such self-destructive philosophies in the West.

You didn't answer the question.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

On a technical matter, are we right in using feminine pronouns in a case like this? After all, 'wurst' does mean sausage as a reminder of the current state of play with Conchita.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

@yongyang

fi people love each other, let them. The world needs more love, less division and hate. i agree with you, soon people will not be allowed on TV unless they are a one armed black lesbian midget. pc gone mad.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

You didn't answer the question.

'Transsexualism' is a self-destructive idea. If you want proof, just look at suicide rates. Post-op transsexuals have a higher suicide rate than pre-op, and both have far higher suicide rates than the general population. Gender dysphoria is a mental disorder, and it shouldn't be treated by entertaining their delusions about being the opposite sex. Just like we don't humor a schizophrenic's delusions about being Napoleon.

Does that answer your question? Suicide is bad for society, yes?

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Gay have right to live but do not have roght to abuse their position n title to promote gay. This i against. Its like gay is exposing public to accept reality. Whats with europe and american these days. Should we accept this right to be more publicised to encourage gay. Gay is 21st century worst disease.

-6 ( +8 / -14 )

I don't get the whole Conchita thing, but i guess we all have to make a living,

2 ( +5 / -3 )

People with beards who put on dresses don't have gender issues. They've resolved them. It's the ones who are scared of man in a dress and a beard who have gender issues.

10 ( +14 / -5 )

It's the ones who are scared of man in a dress and a beard who have gender issues.

Sure, and anyone who disagrees with same-sex marriage is secretly gay themselves. Note the irony of this kind of ad hominem - your insult amounts to accusing someone of being gay/having gender issues. In other words homophobia/transphobia. The kind of thing you're attempting to condemn in the first place.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There's nothing new about men dressing/posing as women ---why the big todo and fuss about it?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Long live Hirstute Queens of the world! without them we'de all be drones!

Does that answer your question? Suicide is bad for society, ye

Give me the actual numbers and percentage that transexuals top the list of suicide victims, here say is not an enough evidence to support your point. If what you say is true, then you mean the estimated 30,000 suicide cases here in Japan yearly are mostly transexuals?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Hell will freeze over before Japan adopts a nation wide law permitting same sex marriage. It may happen in the future, but gays living now won't be around to see it.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Mark, I agree with this, but my problem was with the use of the word 'weird'. By simply saying something is weird or abnormal without giving us substantive reasons for why it might be good or bad, you are basically ostracizing people and singling them out as being different. Nobody wants to be an outsider so it's really a form of social control over people (exactly what you are saying that we shouldn't be doing). You are essentially saying that it should be acceptable to disapprove of ideas simply because you find them weird or not in the mainstream. But of course every new idea is weird at first, so if were all as disapproving of weird things like you, we would end up without any new ideas in a very boring world (which you claim to be against).

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Using 'she' is fine but Neuwirth (his real name) uses it only when playing Wurst character. Yes, a character...

More details on Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conchita_Wurst

Illyas: he is not a transexual. Your rant is off topic...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

And these non-traditional genders have a high suicide rate because they are non-traditional or because of the years of abuse by normal people who 'don't hate them' but put them down, abuse them, and in some cases rape them? Discriminate against them because of their clothing, force them to be in the closet, and otherwise don't allow them to be themselves? Tough question.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

He is a Musician and that is what I buy is his Music and his Voive. = his product.

Like with anybody I could care less about his sexual preference or how they dress. Personally I think Miley Cyrus, Justin Burner, etc are way worse role models.

Don't like his music or presentation, still a free world and the choice to buy, read, etc is yours.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@MarkG "We DO need more love in this world"

More Love yes, but not various perverts like that one.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Funny, everybody sez in Japan the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

I find the opposite true(especially reading posts here), Japan does accept gays, cross dressers, Harajuku fashion and way more.

More personal freedom here.

Something is terribly and terminally wrong in many western countries where all of these social abnormalities are being promoted as some new "norm" that should be celebrated and exalted. The novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky easily diagnosed these cultural marxist ills way ahead of his time.

You do only live once, and as long as you are not hurting someone else (which is not the same as them being hurt by your choices for your own life), you should do what you want.

What values built Rome, Britain, the Untied States, etc into world powers?

If you want to live in the past, that's your choice, but we shouldn't have to live according to outdated ideals simply because you have some romanticized version of what happened in other countries.

People with beards who put on dresses don't have gender issues. They've resolved them. It's the ones who are scared of man in a dress and a beard who have gender issues.

That's going to go right over the heads of so many people.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

A decade ago, I would have said the same of the US.

never understood why people with mental condititons or health conditions like these individuals wouldnt want to be cured.. I understand that the medical tech isnt here for that to happen yet but in the future gene therapy will be able to correct the many imperfections that make, transexuals, homosexuals etc the way they are. and its certainly not an evolutionary process as I dont see human becoming hermaphrodites anytime soon. when confronted with this question people with these conditions think they are perfectly normal and dont need to be cured.

-3 ( +5 / -7 )

Well, "past" values have been tested. All the "new" values that are implemented in the name of enlightenment have not been tested. The changes in society are going into place so rapidly (and often forcefully) that nobody can predict what the results will be. It will take a couple generations at the very least, and people will not connect the results to changes made 50 years previously - so they won't know what the problem is. Simply, more successful societies will then dominate.

Or everything will be just fine. No precedent for that, but we can always hope.

What a gay day!

Cure her for what? so she becomes "Normal" or "sane" like you and will start to judge other people's business?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

From now I'll consider her the face of LGBT.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

If I had been the Mayor I would have refused to see him until he realised and appreciated that my office was not the place for his objectionable dressing-up antics.

If people like this want to make a spectacle of themselves its only because they want to make themselves the centre of attention because of their own insecurities.

People like this ought to have a more adult approach to life and show some repect to others instead of expecting everyone else to accept and bow down to their circus-tricks approach to the way they want to live their life.

Remember the old saying "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" ....

This is about showing mutual respect ...

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Those are some very hideous pics.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

And Caligula would've blushed @ the sight of this hideous thing in those pics.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

I wouldn't mind wearing a tube top, a skirt and silk panties in this weather. Call me crazy George.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Cure her for what? so she becomes "Normal" or "sane" like you and will start to judge other people's business? I couldnt care less if people want to love the same sex, but as human we strive to rid ourselves of genetic faults and diseases. but if you could fix your faults so you can love find attractive/ reproducewith the opposite sex as nature intended, wouldnt you want that!? or would you prefer to keep your genetic faults so you can hand them down to your offspring if you decide to have children!?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

A genuinely courageous human being.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I've met a lot of women with hair on their face and didn't find it a problem!! (WINK)

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Illyas: Gender dysphoria and pedastry/pedophilia are considered mental illnesses just as homosexuality once was. They will probably all be delisted in the future.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

He is not the first provocative Austrian to ask the Japanese whether they would like to join him on his radical political initiative. Imagine the reaction by Japan's more conservative neighbors. These countries might appear to welcome the tolerance of gays in Western countries, but will they respond in kind when it happens somewhere so close to home?

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

@crazyjoe

Just wanted to post your comment one more time because I reckon you hit the nail on the head there!

"People with beards who put on dresses don't have gender issues. They've resolved them. It's the ones who are scared of man in a dress and a beard who have gender issues."

This story and above post is full of doublethink!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Conchita is awesome!

Japan is thankfully evolving to become more accepting of all sorts of people ^^
