Crown Prince Naruhito has the flu, the Imperial Household Agency said Tuesday. The crown prince, who has the A-type virus, had a temperature of 38.5 degrees on Monday night, the agency said.

The agency said it has canceled all the crown prince's officials duties until March 8. He was scheduled to visit Kyoto on Wednesday.

Take lots of Lemsip, eat lots of garlic, and double up on oregano oil (if you take the caps rather than straight oil, it's more palatable that way). And sleep... Hope you feel better!

Is this article really necessary?

@Maria

Can you get Lemsip in Japan?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Get well soon, Your Highness!

@lucabrasi - I've never bought it in Japan. I hope that his imperial highness has some friends in the UK. Otherwise...

@Maria

Thank you. Looks like a site worth exploring....

Oh yes - so newsworthy.

@lucabrasi - it really is, if you can cram that box to within grams of the limit! They have chocolate Ready Brek too - I bet His Imperial Sniffliness would like that.

who cares?

who cares?

Well I'm sure he does, it can be pretty nasty. And all the folk with events planned up to the 8th will have to find someone else toot sweet to open their shopping malls/watch their sports tournaments etc. And all those in the Imperial household charged with looking after him, cos it's contagious. I wonder if any of his carers who come down with it will be able to claim kyosai?

I wouldn't wish the flu on anyone, even someone living off the public purse. Get well soon, prince.

@cleo

"Get well soon, prince."

"Prince"?!!

"Your Highness", surely... I'd expect better from a former queen of Egypt, Ma'am. ; )

I cannot help praying to get well as fast as possible.

Do you think they make him wear one of those blue cooling jelly pads on his forehead? haha.

@Maria Thanks for the link. Great stuff.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

seriously everybody gets flu...

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I pray he has a quick recovery.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Stop the press! The crown prince has a fever of 38.5!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I hope he gets well soon. But, this must be a real slow news day if "The Prince has the sniffles" is considered newsworthy.

Pretty sure opening shopping malls is not one of activities that the Japanese royals participate in, but maybe you know if some examples?

Nah, just thinking off the top of my head what royals might be doing to fill their time and earn their keep......when they go to visit the folk in Tohoku still struggling to make a go of it it's all over the news, so they aren't doing that every day.....

As a representative of Japanese people I think he should do what most people in my office do when they have colds or flu. Carry on with his 'job' and spread whatever he has to one and all.

I thought he only went outside to wave, from his balcony, on New Year's Day. How did he catch the flu? Did he have to sit for a long time in the doctor's office like us commoners? No, of course not. I hope he gets well soon so he can get back to....

I have no idea what this "A-type" flu virus is meant to be. Also, judging by the number of school absences lately, I think the flu going around is pretty brutal. It is for sure if its the one I just got over.

More information about those details would be exceptionally newsworthy.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Do we really need to know this.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Well, if it's anything like the flu type A that's had me laid up since Sunday night, I wish HRH a speedy recovery. I've rarely felt worse than this. It's a swine. God help any seniors who contract it.

And I think, given the number of schools that are closed this week, we can finally stop pretending wearing a magic tissue on your face has any effect at all on flu transmission. These mask are more likely to provide a quick disguise for a knife-wielding maniac (as they did in Kashiwa this week) than provide the slightest bit of protection against disease.

Hope you get well. Maybe he needs to get out of the house more and grow an imunity to everyday life.

Thank you for the news JT, it's good to hear that no one is spared from this terrible illnes even with all the support and protection at hand. It's a good reminder for all to take care and when sick it's ok to have time off from normal duties

Christ if we reported on everyone who gets the flu would anybody care?? I got the flue last week is anybody worried?? I think not!

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Did he get a flu shot?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It is news because he is the future Emperor. KunaICho assigned expert MD will take care of Him. He is not one of everyone.
