Crown Prince Naruhito turned 53 on Saturday. Naruhito, the heir to the Chrysanthemum Throne, said in remarks at a press conference, that he has been spending time with his 79-year-old father, Emperor Akihito, about once a month to exchange views on various issues such as the role of the emperor in modern Japanese society.
The crown prince, honorary president of the U.N. Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, will speak about Japan's experience of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami at a special U.N. session on water and disaster on March 6 during a four-day trip to New York.

Oh and before I forget Omedeto gozaimasu!

Can't someone simply have respect and admiration for a royal family or is it because I admitted I'm Chinese?
Well aside from previous members of the Imperial family from WWII which is understandable I find the current generation to be kind, decent and well-behaved people compared to many other monarchs whether they be European or Asian. No offense to them I respect and admire many of them too but I actually grew up in an absolute monarchy that's part of the British Commonwealth and I find that while decent themselves my country's royal family and the British royal family (no offense to them) tend to be how shall we say a little rough around the edges which tends to drive down my personal feelings for them.

songwillem2011 respect and admiration are great when then they are based on good reasons and really not so great when they aren't and in fact, can be dangerous. So what are your reasons for this respect and admiration?
songwillem2011
I'm Chinese and even I have nothing but respect and admiration for the Imperial Family of Japan.

Wow you people are harsh. Maybe Sony will get him a new computer for his birthday. I think that he looks great and I have respect for the whole Imperial family and the fact that they are the oldest hereditary monarchy. Sometimes survival against all odds is honorable and worthy of respect. Their Imperial Majesties, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko are loved around the world and Prince Hiro will one day rise to his potential as a global ambassador of peace, a kind husband, good father and friend of the people.

Many happy returns, Crown Prince Naruhito! Have met him several times and he is, like his father, a very decent and extremely well-educated man. Many countries have done worse in the royalty lottery. His English is excellent, too.

Happy birthday!
I'm sure he treasures the extra time he has to spend with his family. Few people would want to see their parent(s) die just so that they could have more work to do.

I am sure that laptop is always on his desk. And the bigger screen is better for his eyes.
I wonder...does it suck to be 53 and still the prince and not the king?

I hope he gets a new laptop for his birthday. Look at the size of that thing!
