Babies and politicians have a lot in common...

Lol! At least with babies we can clean their butts after they fill the diapers. Not so easy to clean the crap out of what politicians say!

Babies are cute too! That's a HUGE one up on the politicians!

Intolerance of crying children is not responsible for the low birth rate.

Look where they are encouraging crying; businesses. They want to show that it’s ok babies cry to ensure the transition of money can occur. I also don’t think that anyone wants babies to cry but rather be understanding that parents can’t instantly stop the cries.

This is nonsensical!

Babies don’t just cry for the sake of it, they cry because they are in distress!

Toddlers playing and yelling are a nuisance?

OMG!

Japanese society is even more aberrative than I had believed....

Japanese parents sleep with their children, the Westerners do not, for instance. total BS comment again, it has been shown medically that sleeping with babies increases the chance of sudden infant death syndrome, accidental suffocation and accidental strangulation. A baby sleeping in a cot next to the mothers bed is the safest option

@yabaru

now that you mention it, babies are more mature than politicians.

Babies crying is one thing. Children screaming for no reason while their parents assume faces of catatonic indifference is another story. LDP politicians ought to be forced by law to eat in restaurants full of screaming children.

Being around spoiled shrieking children and their moronic parents is the greatest inducement I know to not having kids.

'Most of all, you get used to it'

Yes, but crying all night long doesn't seem right either.

They CRY for a reason and the reasons being 1. attention (diaper change or are in the process of..), 2.attention (food), 3. attention (something is bothering them, such as not feeling well or feeling cold) or 4. attention, Love :)

That made me laugh!

Thanks

They should have signs that warn customers that babies are allowed to cry there. Then I know not to go there. Win-win for everyone.

Kabukilover, thanks for making sense.

Kabukilover, thanks for making sense.

I second that. Nailed it!

13 governors back bawling babies once again politicians making excuses and offering remedies that deflect from what actually needs to be done. Stop wasting F money on shite policies and spend it on family support policies that make having children less a burden, then and only then will you get the future tax payers your so desperately after!!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Really? It’s not uncommon to see screaming children running around in a restaurant or shops. Japanese children are some of the most pampered in the world.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Despite government efforts to create a society more conducive to rearing families, Japan is sometimes seen as intolerant of children. Communities often refuse to host nursery schools or parks because neighbors complain about the noise of playing toddlers.

Sometimes? Get off with the over-generalizations please! MOST people are tolerant of crying babies, it's a select few that cause problems for the rest.

Senile fools who have forgotten that once they too were a crying baby!

Babies cry? Kids scream? Wow! Who would have thought?

Many times I've seen people abusing parents on the train and telling them to get off because their baby or toddler was crying or screaming. I've also seen many people maliciously belt their kids on trains at at stations for crying. It's not a matter of being tolerant. It's a society of selfish butt-holes that only care about themselves.

How wonderful for you Lil Pappy.

@yubaru

Lol

Baby cries= baby not happy...so the parent/s need to tend to the cause, which is usually the result of something they should have done prior to the infant's cry for help. A crying baby is natural, it's WHAT is done afterward which is of concern regarding this article. Just simply saying 'crying babies welcome' is nonsense.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Designer, people pay considerably to buy a business class ticket with the expectation that their flight will be more comfortable and bearable - and you cant understand why bringing your bawling child into that enviroment isnt welcome. What are you thinking?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I'm ok with babies crying but not 3 to 10 year olds who scream their heads off in public places while their parents to nothing to discipline them.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

If the Governors can brawl in public in front of the Camera's then why not Kids. One is natural, the other...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

When I see that stupid sign in a restaurant or coffee shop window I'll know not to go in. There are already far too many thoughtless parents ignorant of the disturbance their screaming brats cause to others.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

pure stupidity, and yea baby cry cause the parents aint attentive enough, sort you kid out or take somewhere it doesnt bother others

Its always pretty easy to work out who is a parent and who isn't when we have these discussions.

A key plank of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's economic policies has been to encourage a more family-friendly society, partly to encourage mothers back into the workplace but also to boost the country's slumping birth rate.

Bunch of liars. They really don't care about this issue.

This is interesting. We have visited Japan many times with our child. On our first visit we were criticized by ANA staff on our flight home in business class because our young child cried, which I was really surprised by. This was our only bad experience. Generally the Japanese people that we have encountered have been wonderfully kind to our child, including hotel staff who went out of their way to make him happy, antique dealers who gave him gifts on more than one occasion and old ladies on a bus who held him on their lap when all the seats were taken. Like most things in life it all depends on who you are dealing with, pretty obvious that some of the posters here have never had a kid of their own

@designer

I had a similar experience with my 4 month old daughter on an ANA flight, and I will note that the crying was brief (~10 minutes). I find that ANA is on gate keeper duty, and will— without hesitation— blindly and proudly impose the “norm".

More than intolerance for babies crying, I am amazed at the tolerance people have for 3-5 year old hissy fits at department stores and other public locations.

Japanese society is even more aberrative than I had believed....

So this a Japanese society thing because of some intolerant people?

yea baby cry cause the parents aint attentive enough

Babies cry no matter how attentive parents are.

Amazed by so many downvotes.

It really means many singles (or limited persons ?) coming on that site.

Hey I just expressed life !

By the way, I was thinking about the same as some selfish comments when without kids, that parents should do better with their kids.

I learned that you can't limit life. And I am a parent who likes quietness and to respect others best possible (or I would not have been with a Japanese you can imagine).

Good luck Japan !

I'm thinking that having paid for the tickets I have just as much right to be in business class with my family as anyone else and that if my kid cries during take off the staff should relax as the vast majority of people in there will have kids themselves and know just how things are with kids. And I'm thinking that the kind of attitues you are displaying are exactly those that the politicians are trying to change. I assume you don't have kids yourself.

"The Noise NOISE NOISE NOISE" (Dr Seuss, the Grinch) I know, they built a desperately needed nursery on the other side of a parking lot from my Condo! The the grinch crew came by with a petition to sign! I didn't sign it! But maybe I see their point! More babies means more humans! And humans have been plaguing this planet for too long! But seriously, I stand out on my balcony, and happily watch those kids play on their little roof playground, and I feel fuzzy inside! I love kids! People who don't.....are kind of sick and selfish!!!

Japan has reaped the negative economic and social consequences of a very low birthrate. A whole generation of adults failed to produce enough children to support them. Now the few children they did produce is overburdened with the results.

Western nations beware. Negative or indifferent attitudes toward natural families, parenting, motherhood and children will have long term negative consequences for society as a whole. Children are a blessing and parenting is a wonderful privilege. Without parents and children we won't have a society. Let's encourage childbearing and raising as much as possible.

If you have lived in Japan, you should know kids are on average very quiet.

And some comments show here that many people are clueless about babies 'crying : they cry sometimes for the simple reason they don't feel well, going for a wee, or simply remind people surrounding them that they are here.

Most of all, you get used to it !

Personally, after my 2 first kids, I am now able to sleep with a baby crying all night long if necessary.

Be a man, not a jerk.

It is a matter of politeness if your baby cry too long to leave for a moment (outside being in a plane...)
