Sadly too many museums & rich peoples art collections contain a hell of a lot of questionable acquisitions

Turkey was the preferred pawn shop for ISIS' antiquities smuggling, at least where the theft of Syrian artifacts are concerned. Perhaps Turkish Cypriots took a similar route?

Turkey since it’s illegal invasion has been in effective illegal occupation of northern Cyprus for 47 years. That they have stolen cultural and artistic items and flogged them off through the illegal art market is hardly surprising.

nandakandamanda, genetics have shown there is no genetic difference between the Muslim and Greek Orthodox Cypriots, they are one people. Sadly it is just a religious divide exacerbated by outsiders for their own political ends.

Sounds like a Japanese art collector got them off some rapacious Turks back in the day. Nice to see them finally go home, but I wonder what the quid pro quo was to do this?

I wounder if they had to buy them back, or were they given back.

In the section of Cyprus taken by the Turks, there was little respect, little protection and little sympathy for the Christian sites there.

I hear you. Pricey navy suits and ties. If only it was just the paint hangin on the walls.

Imagine how empty the British Museum's would be if they handed back all the historic items that have been stolen in the past.

The British Museum's what? Cupboards, shelves, tables?

There are a number of questionable artefacts in Japan.

As there are in very country. But no country tops England.

"The British Museum contains hundreds of contested items, the spoils of the British Empire’s reach (and smash n’ grab) across the globe. Some of the museum’s most popular and prized items are included: the Parthenon Marbles, the Rosetta Stone, and the Benin Bronzes. The countries from which these artifacts were taken are increasingly asking for their return."

Christ was a Prophet in Muslims eyes, but not the one.

Ethnic divide, perhaps, but it is the religious divide that enabled much of this looting.
