For male profile photos in Japan, I would recommend arty photos of a Lexus headlight, a 500,000 yen plus watch, an old volleyball, and some posh cafe food on an outdoor table.
This signals rich and will take you places, rich and refined, tall and sporty, but possibly not so much any more, and likes outdoors, but nothing too strenuous that will tire you out or wreck your makeup.

My favorite is the girls who list their interest as "foodie" - oh? You like to eat, huh? WHAT AN AMAZINGLY INTERESTING PERSON!!

Dating apps in Japan are a complete joke.
Did you check some of the profiles out there? 90% of them are with girls/women showing only their back, other their face blurred or deleted, some, very low res pictures which you cannot figure anything, most have food pictures, sceneries, or some other garbage.
Not to mention than when you start chating with them, they just reply with Hi or hello or at most, a 3 word sentence, even if you gave them a nice introduction.

In the US, finding a partner via a dating app is contributing to a further decline in social mobility and exacerbating entrenched social inequality as people self sort by class when meeting someone on a dating app.
How about Japan?

Dating apps these days are ok. Last week, I hooked up with two girls less than half my age.
thats why the last thing on earth i will let my daughter touch is dating apps, no wonder people keep saying only the apps is the meeting place for the perverts

Like the "over 65s working" article, this is focusing on one in four people who do, and not the three in four people who do not.
I met my wife in a club, but do not go out of my way to tell any remotely conservative people about this, due to the stigma attached to nampa. I do not want people looking down on my wife, who in many ways is a finer person than some nosey prude.
I fear for some people in Japan if relationships aren't allowed to start in the workplace. I know several married couples who met this way.

I’ve been off the market for a long while, but the best way, I think, to meet a potential partner is to engage in activities in which the other people share a similar interest. I imagine that many people are doing that online these days.
The one where they say “pray tell.”

So many tried-out used goods on such apps.
Low status Japanese men are better off just going to Southeast Asia.

Young people don't know a world without the Internet. Dating apps are just a ubiquitous part of life that they don't even reflect on. They just use them...as a matter of convenience.

As the father of a good looking 20 year old son in university, I'm genuinely concerned about his "activity" on dating apps as he is "dating" 3~5 girls a week! This is the case with his friends as well. While reports of young Japanese people abstaining from sex abound...they are mostly regarding the shy, introverted type of guys and gals who didn't date prior to the advent of the Internet. The good looking ones are out there having at it like rabbits! I've become a broken record with the STDs/pregnancy warning...

Dating apps are alright. I preferred 20 years ago when there were random bulletin boards you could meet people I scored so many times there. "language exchange" lol More like "body fluid exchange" - good times! Now they want to check your identity, making things problematic!

Are all the posters on here over 50 and have poor memory or just haven’t been in Japan as long as you claim? English dating sites were popular in Japan 10+ years ago as a way for Japanese people to meet a potential non Japanese spouse. What’s the problem? Not a guarantee that you will settle down with someone in university at 21 and you probably have a better chance of meeting somebody (same sex or not) with more on the ball with an app than a random drunk chick at a bar or club.

The title of the article ‘**Dating apps most common way to meet a spouse in Japan’ is misleading. It really should say: ‘Dating Apps Are a Leading Method for Married Adults Under 40 to Meet in Japan (25%), but Offline Methods Still Dominate Overall.’** The original title also misleadingly suggests that dating apps are the predominant means to meet a future spouse. However, it does not differentiate between online and offline methods and treats different offline methods (such as work, friends, or social events) as separate categories, which collectively make offline the more common approach. It’s important to properly understand the data rather than accept a simplified headline that may not accurately reflect the reality.

Which university? Prey tell.

thats why University is very important for everyone. Inside the campus you will meet a lot of people and your future life partner is there. You both share the same education background, same interest, same surroundings friends and everything. If you fail to meet someone during your university life, then once you are out and work, chances are low you will meet someone nice. you will find that most of your colleagues are morons and you wish not even to talk to them after 5pm. At that stage you are forced to use the dating apps. So please study hard and make sure you get admitted into the university

just give me the good old days, NO APPS! when you meet an opposite sex person (I stress opposite) over a chance meal or lounge bar encounter and feel the common electricity by personal interface. Then marry or not still produce a multiple person live long 'family' relationship. The pressure of marriage is a distraction. Q for younger gens, do the apps actually make them feel afraid and diminish their social interactions. Or is it the great pressure to get married?

Unfortunately, there are also many creepy predators lurking on these sites which have resulted in assaults and deaths.

I don't know how most of young people feel about this, but dating app might either thrive of fail because of AI. Only perfect profiles, hundreds of fake profiles, AI messaging AI - that sounds like the very opposite of finding "your true one".
didou
That’s clearly show the social evolution where young people are not able anymore to talk directly with someone for a seduction game, but hide behind the app.

Even with the lack of photos of the girl’s face? What’s with the profile photos of cakes, dogs, flowers etc.?

Dating apps are also I would suspect the #1 cause for divorce also.

Dating apps are also the most common way to meet other people's spouses.
