Love everything about Ghibli but sadly I will never see this.

My dislike for Nagoya and surrounding area is more than my love for Ghibli!

This even applies to my Otaku daughter how swore never to go back to Nagoya.

Couldn't it have be built someplace nicer?

Yes, uproot trees, clear the greenery to, " ♪ put up a parking lot..."

I went to Nagoya a week or two ago. Osu was a ghost town that closed at 7pm. I hope this park may bring some energy, but I doubt it.

Nagoya is a great town. If you dont like it too bad.

@mio

you must drive a Toyota and admire it while waiting at the one thousand traffic lights.

I found that Nagoya has some very wonderful things. I suppose some liberal elitists may find it too gauche.

What's wrong with Nagoya? Serious question, I've never been then.

For the Nagging-About-Nagoya folks, good news. This place seems to be in a different city, at the park that hosted the Aichi World Expo in the early 2000s. Can any Aichi people clue us in on the name of the city in question, as this article does not seem to include it. If it really is Nagoya, then nevermind.

I don’t understand the Nagoya hate in here. I have lived on the outskirts of Nagoya for 13 years and have loved it here in comparison to places like Tokyo. The park itself is in Nagakute and the park isn’t uprooting any trees it’s being built inside of an already established park with minimal landscape changes.

Live in Nagoya, can confirm it's a boring unfriendly city that is based on cars. This is actually in Nagakute city which is outside Nagoya. From Nagoya station you need to take the subway to the end of the line then transfer to the slow, once every 10mins, expensive Linimo train. Will take about 1hr and about 900¥ one way.

I live in the Nagoya area, also lived in Tokyo for 4 years, not sure what all the fuss is. Everywhere has plusses and minuses obviously. Enjoyed Tokyo when I lived there and now into my 3rd year in Aichi and we are doing just fine here. People going to complain though, that's what these comment boards are for it seems LoL.

I’ve lived in Nagoya for more than a decade. Its not the most exciting city in Japan, but the negativity on here is way overblown.

Osu was a ghost town that closed at 7pm.

Osu is a shopping area, not a nightlife area. Go there in the afternoon on the weekend and its an incredibly packed and vibrant place. Way better than Den Den Town or Amerika Mura in Osaka IMO.

The article does say it, its in Nagakute. Which is basically just a bedroom community for Nagoya, out in the suburbs. They’ve got an IKEA and the Toyota Car Museum is out there too.

Downtown Nagoya is pretty messed up from the huge car infrastructure cutting neighborhoods off from each other, but other than that I don’t get the impression that the city is more car based than other regional centers. Its train and subway system is about as extensive as Osaka’s is and its as easy to get around without a car as it is anywhere else (except Tokyo which is in a category of its own).

Rainyday,

Look at a map of the subway and train system of Osaka and Nagoya. Osaka is so much better covered. There are entire areas in Nagoya city that are 15 to 20min walks from the nearest station, especially out east towards fujigaoka

I don’t know. Fujigaoka is way out on the edge of the city so one would expect stations to be less dense out there. Osaka has suburbs where you have to walk that far too.

The Osaka rail network is bigger, but that is because the Kansai area has several other major cities while the Chubu area just has Nagoya and a bunch of small to medium sized ones.
