The foreseeable result of incompetence.

This seems quite contrary to the report yesterday from the J-Gov stating the quarantine was handled well. To quote Abe's statement about Fukushima from his Olympic bid, "It's under control!" NOT!

It really is weird that they would do something so obviously risky (letting them off the boat without a quarantine) without any obvious incentive to do so. Its kind of a gratuitous level of incompetence being displayed.

I think it's time for Japan's health minister to resign. Vote me up if you agree.

Dozens of passengers allowed off a coronavirus-stricken ship have developed symptoms including fever and will be asked to take tests for the virus, Japan's health minister said Wednesday.

Ya think you should have put them into another quarantine before letting them loose?

Point a finger DIRECTLY at the Abe government for this screw up! If the virus spreads further from contact with these people heads should be rolling!

The government needs another study to tell the public this was the right decision.

Remember, Japan has until May to eradicate the coronavirus or the Tokyo Olympics' cancelled.

This has turned into quite a fiasco. Mistakes of this magnitude have far reaching and severe consequences. How many hundreds of people have been put at risk because of incompetence? If the authorities in charge can’t handle the containment of an outbreak on an isolated boat, I think it’s safe to say they’ll be hopeless to contain it in the general population.

Very poorly handled right from the start, this shows the world the incompetence involved with Japans govt , its administrators and decision making process. Ill informed making bad decisions one after another until there is a crisis.

This could have all been avoided by simply utilizing the olympic village to quarrantine the cruise passengers for 14 days, after all it had much better facilities than that rusty tin can floating around yokohama bay.

They could have then properly kept people isolated and properly tested people before releasing them into the general population to spread this virus, but, you know this makes too much sense it is just too simple and straight forward, therefore beyond the J govt thinking or mentality.

There is no crisis or disaster until the J Govt officials get there hands on any situation., but once they do you can bet they will blow it up out of proportion.

If the olympics are held here later this year everyone better hope there is no big earth quake or typhoon as you can be sure the J govt will stuff that situation up too.

There is not information on the coronavirus to say it can be eradicated by May to make a decision or July to hold the Olympics. The US CDC says it’s not a question of if the virus will spread but when. People who test negative, later develop symptoms, and then have trouble breathing.

Japan needs to make sure the Olympics does not become the cruise ship incubator sending millions of virus agents back to their own countries all over the world.

Dozens allowed off cruise ship have symptoms such as fever: minister

Ya don't say?!?!? Chee Boss.. I don know how dat couda happened....

"We asked all of them (who have symptoms) to see a doctor and to take tests."

That ought to do it. Carry on then....

Opposition lawmakers have blamed the government for failing to implement a fresh 14-day quarantine after the passengers left the cruise ship -- as was required by countries that repatriated citizens from the boat.

When many posters on this site did exactly that they were accused of japan bashing. Good to see that even JAPANESE politicians are saying this.

This seems quite contrary to the report yesterday from the J-Gov stating the quarantine was handled well. To quote Abe's statement about Fukushima from his Olympic bid, "It's under control!" NOT!

NOTHING this clown car of an administration has is under control.

"We asked all of them (who have symptoms) to see a doctor and to take tests."

What? You mean they've asked them to voluntarily walk into a building packed with elderly/sick people when they are feeling unwell and tell them they've just got off the HMS Petri Dish?????

Are these guys insane?

How about "Stay where you are and don't go outside. We'll send a doctor TO you with testing kits to confirm what is going on."

7 ( +7 / -0 )

no, not don't test them yet , they don't have c19, don't use valuable test kits because if they turn out to be negative, you just wasted 20,000 yen for nothing, just wait little longer until they can not get up from the beds, can not go the bathroom by themselves, don't use that testing kits on maybes, you need to make sure you have 99% accuracy same as 99% conviction rate,

Marcelito,

Brilliant! I can't wait to hear their comments, too. Over to them!

But but but Mr. Kato said the quarantine had worked. There was NIID said there was data proving their argument. Ay dios mio! What happened?

It's like they are trying to provide a case study for the world on how NOT to handle a potential epidemic. Fools of the highest degree running the Federal Government of Japan.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Don’t worry. Japan will be able to eradicate the disease by May for the Olympics by stopping all diagnosis tests by mid-April, of course with a gradual tapering from mid-March.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Fever, 8days, test positive, 8days, trouble breathing/death. This seems to be the pattern.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

No vaccine in near future, people are on their own

@ klausdorth

.... did I forget anything?

You forgot the "urging" to do this and "avoiding" to do that.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Incompetent government! All other countries put their people under 14 days quarantine after getting off that boat except japan!. They had Bureaucrats handling the situation instead of professionals. You should’ve listened to Dr. Iwata instead of pressuring him to lie with you. You should be ashamed of yourself!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

How about "Stay where you are and don't go outside. We'll send a doctor TO you with testing kits to confirm what is going on."

Testing is a complex laboratory procedure that takes two hours and special equipment.

"Remember, Japan has until May to eradicate the coronavirus or the Tokyo Olympics' cancelled"

So, if Japan eradicates the coronavirus by May, the Olympics won't be cancelled. This flows naturally from your statement.

Does this mean that the rest of Word does not have to eradicate the virus then?

Japan (and Japan alone) eradicates the virus and the games go ahead; then infected people from all over the World are allowed to come into the country to compete and watch the games?

Need some clarification given I'm a bit confused.com. by what you've said.
