Why not just make fares on their slowest Kodama trains cheaper for everyone instead of charging the same as the fastest Nozomis? Daft thinking.

Gods forbid they just program the online reservation system to let people get a free child's ticket when they purchase an adult ticket. No, such lunacy would be madness!

Japan: The country of unnecessary bureaucracy and jumping through hoops for the simplest of things.

Just make all train fares cheaper instead of this convoluted system.

Or, how about lowering prices across the board?
Wait, that’s logical. Never mind.

Children should not be riding bullet trains alone. Either include parents or don't do it, this government has been doing some strange offers so far.

The headline made it seem so nice.
Shouldn't it read "Efforts to revive tourism expand to rebate bullet train rides for kids, after jumping through a few hoops"?

The people in power always invent some kind of twisted, payment return delayed, strange age criteria only certain payment methods allowed ''DISCOUNT'' It's like they're thinking how can my mate who owns the train company and my mate who owns the credit card company make some money???

As usual the fools running stuff in this country never learn and never take into account whether the computer system is able to cope with the surge in access and take appropriate measures beforehand, until they try it and the system is overwhelmed and they have no choice but to suspend the online booking. I bet you this will also end up like past campaigns . Online booking system suspended due to unanticipated increase in access and demand for free tickets for children .

You still have pay to reserve a child seat. The fare is free. Plus the hop you have jump through. I have to say the government is very good at targeting program where only 5% of the funds will be spent. The same with the Go travel. I Assume that start in February the month with the lowest percent for Japan for citizen to take holidays and end just before Golden week. Another well targeted program were only a small % of the fund will be spent.

They'll really try anything except letting international visitors return to help with the economic rebuild.
