englisc: "in the UK people of all walks of life who have done something of note, even locally are invited"

To royal events? That is good to know. I hope the Royal Family in Japan invites GyGene, who I'm pretty sure has done something of note.

What time should I arrive? I'd like some onigiri, mikans, kakki, and Kitakata Machi ramen please.

Serrano - not sure if it is similar in Japan but in the UK people of all walks of life who have done something of note, even locally are invited. Perhaps that isn’t the case in Japan? Could someone more knowledgable in Imperial procedures enlighten us?

"mingle with around 2,000 invited guests, including those from the worlds of popular culture, sports, academia and politics."

What about from the worlds of the hard working ordinary folk who make less than 5 million a year?

I hope that he and his family will have a good evening of their lives. He and his family were born into their lives and not elected into their roles.

I’m interested. Is there a Facebook event page for this shindig?

Agreed 100%. Continuing to be an unnecessary drain on public finances is not making much of yourself.

Then try to understand the importance of what the Emperor and the royal family mean to the culture and history of Japan. The Japanese believe, and maybe rightfully so, that they can connect their history back thousands of years through their Emperor.

Taking that away, which no one really even thinks about, except on forums like this, would figuratively cut the heart out of the Japanese people.

Oh, and the money wouldn't be a problem if the government would learn how to manage it properly!

Good. Cancel these needless waste of money. The imperial family is not special, they happened to be born into the correct family. The rest of us that didn't chose our families correctly have to pay for this nonsense.

No one chooses to be born into whatever, it's what we make of ourselves that matters!
