Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visited Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture on Saturday to show their support for the recovery effort in the tsunami-hit region.
The emperor asked prefectural government officials about measures to evacuate elderly people and whether schools conduct anti-disaster drills, TV Asahi reported.
On Sunday, the couple will visit evacuees living in temprorary housing before heading back to Tokyo.

Maybe we could organise a JT day out on it? :)

I remember back in the good old JNR days being on a train a few times when either the train I was on had to make a stop to let the royal train pass or my companions pointing out the royal stop. @gyouza I clicked on your link and how sad that the royal train is not used by the royal family as much as before BUT how fun to know one can charter it!!!

Not exactly a shinkansen but they have their own train to play with. Dingy colour though. Have seen it a few times at Shinjuku, but not sure if they board there or not.

most likely an airplane. but it is an entertaining thought of a special shinkansen for his imperial majesty.

Did they go by train? (the royal shinkansen?)
