Japan will need much more than praise from him and his family.

"Japan will need much more than praise from him and his family."

People who say that no doubt making Japan the world around them a better place?

Besides, the Japanese people will listen to the Emperor as opposed to listen to some other rubbish and the foreign press is happy to pick up these routine end of years stories after a less than routine year. Think about it.

I would like to see them retire in close down the thrown. Too much money wasted on them.

I disagree. He's an important part of the culture.

Slots of media seemingly refuses to get it factual: The ONGOING catastrophe. Disaster hardly encapsulates the scope of what has and is going on. For an old man, born into his position, you've GOT to give him some respect whether you agree with hereditary nonsense or not.

I agree with Sensei258. The emperor and empress are very important to the psyche of the average Japanese, perhaps if only on a subconscious level. I think you are in the minority. But, I could be wrong too. I just like Michiko.

Today was his day,and a National Holiday.I wish him all the best, and hope for a better year in 2012. I would love to see a more optimistic set of posts here in 2012 too!

Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday today and Merry Christmas to everyone, including the JT staff ^v^

He is an anchor of stability to the Japanese people in good times and bad. The throne is important culturally and it would be a sad day for the Japanese people if it was dissolved. I personally felt a certain reassurance in seeing the Emperor and Empress visiting the disaster relief centers. That somehow we'd get through this. I wish His Majesty only the best on his birthday and the hope for many more. Banzai!!!
