Hope he will be discharged before NHK's "Kohaku Utagassen"

The Emperor is very old and had a good life. Not a lot of us get to be born divine. Time to pass the torch to Naruhito.

i'm not really impressed with most royalty/imperial families but akihito certainly does a good job. he seems to always be on the tv doing one thing or another. for such an old gentleman to be carrying such a heavy workload, it's great to see. ganbarre akihito.
CrazyJoe
I like Akihito, he's a human being, unlike his father Hirohito who claimed to be divine until the end of the war. Well, the doctors know best.

Hope he gets better soon.

Bronchitis? Is that such a serious problem that cannot be cured in short time and needs one to be stuck to a hospital bed? Or is it just another lie and he has some more serious problem? Anyway, I guess if it is the emperor, he probably gets the best treatment, better than any of us, which doesn't mean it's really good, just the best available. Knowing them mugs Japanese doctors, I saw what they did with Keizo Obuchi, I am not very optimistic.

I saw what they did with Keizo Obuchi = I saw what they did to Keizo Obuchi

When you're 77 years old and frail, yes it is a serious problem.
The Munya Times
Surprised to hear, never occurred to me, thanks for the info anyway.

Bronchitis can be extremely serious, and can lead to further complications. He is 77 years old, and partly for that reason, maybe also partly for reasons we are not privvy to (allergy issues? Weak lungs due to previous illness? Irregular heartbeat? All manner of reasons) they have decided to extend his stay.
I kind of like the guy too. He always seems very genuine on TV, and I love the relationship he seems to have with his wife. They appear genuinely fond of each other.
What I don`t like at all is looking at a thread such as this and seeing - yet again - that some losers have gone through thumbing down even perfectly reasonable comments just for the hell of it. You people need to sort yourselves out.

Well said Nicky. I do like his wife, good knows what the IHA will do to her if he croaks first.
Wonder if he's a smoker too...

How about, at least, say "gambatte kudasai", the way to the seniors, here.
