I read an article that explained how Norway hunts more whales than Iceland and Japan together, but basically nobody is doing anything against Norway. The EU is protecting Norway for "some reasons", and if you see also in this article they blame Japan for importing whale meat more than Norway that hunts and sells this meat. This soft policy towards Norway must end. Blame all of them on the same level, not protecting the ones that are convenient to you.

Every week I see at my local Tokyo grocery store one or two styro offerings of KUJIRA (whale) meat. I ti exceptionally dark red and bloody. Appropriately. Every time, I shudder to think of the misery and pain of the fellow mammal who died for this stupid offering. Every other item is a lovely fish, not a godderned mammal with feelings, family, and friends. Please STOP this whatever country is slaughtering our friends of the seas.

Goddernit, Patricia, now ya got me thinking about George and Gracie and the other humpback whales again!

Norway exports significant quantities of crude oil and natural gas to many EU countries. But that couldn't effect how they treat Norway's whaling activities, could it?

Yes. So the EU doesn't hunt whales or import whale meat. But if the statement is true then why is the EU telling Iceland, Norway and Japan what rules they should follow?

Also the EU doesn't have a single 'culture'. From Norway in the north to Greece in the south, from Portugal in the west to Romania in the east, the EU encompasses many cultures.

Well said, Alex80.

This proves how international organization like IWC and UN haven’t run neutral and biased by some limited countries and/or interest groups.

Simply brilliant argument here by Dom Palmer. Well said, Dom!

Also, there is culture imperialism at play, and probably racism. The EU won't criticize citizens of their own western culture. But because Japanese are a different race/culture, they are an easy target. The critics are likely Japan-haters.

Research? What, how to make whale meat taste good? Tried it and it tastes like beef marinated in garbage juice for a week with a touch of low tide. Funny how people get so uppity about eating whales when octopus which are arguably much more intelligent are chopped up and made into delicious Takoyaki without a second thought.

Some people are of the opinion that whale flesh consumption in Japan is in decline. If this is so, what possible use could the imported flesh be put to? Eating less but importing more--doesn't add up!

The EU is a cesspit of hypocrisy and self interest, I would take any concerns or criticism from the EU as a compliment and congratulation.

Yes. But some people think killing some species is OK while vehemently opposing killing other species. This occurs for any number of reason, but basically just comes down to different opinions about where the line between acceptable to kill and unacceptable falls.

Anyone eaten whale meat? What does it taste like similar to Tuna???

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@Andrew Crisp

I ate whale meat once. Quite different from tuna, which is fish. Whale is mammal.

I didn't like it. Could have something to do with the pair of humpback whales named George and Gracie.

It takes many hours for the creature to bleed out.

No, it doesn't.

Could also be a pregnant female.

So?

Sounds like an opinion on where the line should be drawn. Just as I said.

Don Palmer:

Yes. But some people think killing some species is OK while vehemently opposing killing other species.

....and I bet you do too. The only people who vehemently oppose any killing are extreme Jain followers, and even they can not avoid stepping on the occasional ant. And yes, highly evolved mammals who actually have families and languages are not the same as fish.

highly evolved mammals

That isn't how evolution works. Fish are just as evolved as mammals.

....and I bet you do too

Of course I do. That is why my entire comment went on to say,

*"This occurs for any number of reason, but basically just comes down to different opinions about where the line between acceptable to kill and unacceptable falls."*

Why didn't you quote that part?

The only people who vehemently oppose any killing are extreme Jain followers

Oh, I see why not. So you could try and make it look like I said something I didn't.

I didn't say anything about opposing any killing. I specifically said everyone draws their own line.
