Wow, this news story really got big and ended fast and tragic.

He didn't need to do that.

All he had to do is hire a lawyer, go to trial, and face a judge. Guilty or Not he could stay alive, set free or serve his sentence then walk free, ending your life serves NO purpose what so ever, Sir.

On a practical level, I would say it would take real courage to commit suicide.

RIP

His departure from this world will get closure to all the affected people.

Huh? His employees, his family, and anyone associated with the establishment are all going to have to literally pay the price for his not staying alive. The problems still exist, it's going to cost money to fix it, and he isnt around to assist or have anything to do with it.

He literally ran away from his responsibilities and left everyone else responsible.

Dont forget too that the legacy of the Inn will now be HIM, a guy who committed suicide, because he wouldnt take responsibility for not doing his job. They WILL lose customers on that alone.

No one gets any closure here, on that you are wrong. Because he leaves behind plenty of questions about why, and no one will get any answers either.

Now, if he had fixed things, turned the business back around, did what was right, and THEN committed suicide, that's a different story. But then he wouldn't have either, now would he?

Committing suicide due to shame and failure is called being a true Samurai.

Please stop living in the "jidai-gekijyou" This isn't "Mito-koumon" or the 47 Ronin!

In Japan, committing suicide is an honorable act. That's why you see people giving (-) points to all comments who think that committing suicide was an irresponsible thing to do. Welcome to Japan!

Let me guess, you walk around all day in a kimono, geta, and wear 2 swords, with your hair tied in a "man-bun" too.

Different era, different way of thinking today!

People who think it's "honorable" are living in the era that no longer exists today!

Yup. People thinking Japanese do these things "for honor" watch too much American Ninja and samurai movies.

Incredibly sad that this man felt this was the best option for him

Such overwhelming expressions of empathy Yubaru shows how advanced we have become as a human race.

Think what you want, but here in Japan far too many people run away from their problems by committing suicide.

There are a host of excuses as to why, but few if any blame the person for running away and leaving their problems on those who have to clean up for them.

This guy, in my opinion, HAD to know what was going on, evidenced by the reports from previous years that his place was not following the guidelines/laws .

I have empathy and sympathy for those who have to clean up his mess. I have empathy and sympathy for his family he left behind, particularly them, as they will have to deal with the shame of his screwing up, and the loss of a loved one at the same time.

How can people here call him a coward. He admitted to his responsibilities. His departure from this world will get closure to all the affected people. TEPCO Bosses only received Golden Parachute of more than ¥25 million.

Was this the same guy who fed homemade yogurt to his students? No, but seriously, whats with all the jijis that think harmful bacteria doesn't exist if you can't see it?

Either way his life was over.

In japan, apparent suicide may mean that someone made it look like so. There are many apparent suicide cases that often happens when someone apparently do something wrong.

What does it say about society when a man feels his only option of dealing with the fallout is to kill himself.

We all face different yet similar challenges and we all lack skills in certain areas. We don't need to like everyone but we can respect, attempt to understand express sympathy and empathy and love everyone as a whole.

That was a lovely post, LoveJapan. Very enriching and so unlike the usual diatribes we usually see here (and which I am guilty of at times as well). Thank you!

Mmmm!! Real courage ?? ....and a lack of brain cells ! If suicide is the answer....What was the question ?

Killed by the media!

Killed by the media!

Hardly!

Probably a tip of the iceberg case. You might want to think twice about stewing in a soup of bacteria. So much of life here is smoke, mirrors, spin, and facade.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

He didn't clean up, instructed staff not to clean up according to regulations, and now wants people to clean up after himself. Will have to agree with Yubaru. It's completely irresponsible to the public, to the hot springs inn and to his family and loved one.

RIP old fella

Yowza. I'm going to start thinking twice about Japanese baths. If it's reported once, it's likely happening all the time and people just better at not getting caught.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

Wow, running away from his responsibilities by ending his own life is a shame.

Ha! Coward!

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

So bacteria kill this person indirectly?

-13 ( +4 / -17 )

Coward

According to the police, the note read, "I am very sorry. I feel morally responsible for everything. Please take care of the rest."

Sorry, but your committing suicide here is 無責任 "musekinin" or being totally irresponsible! You want others to suffer for your screwing up!

許せない yurusenai! It's unforgivable!
