I’m curious whether Ms. Kennedy, who is actually set to be named as the U.S. ambassador to Australia, will make the long trip to attend. I sincerely doubt it. Special permission would be needed to enter the country. But if Japan is currently letting in JET Programme teachers, the country can welcome back Ms. Kennedy, right?

British born, Australian entertainer Dame Olivia Newton-John, now living in the U.S. is also a named recipient for the Order of the Rising Sun. In 2019, the Queen acknowledged Newton-John as Companion of Honour for her services to charity, cancer research and entertainment. She did concerts for Japan after 3/11. (Surprised this wasn’t highlighted in Today’s “Entertainment” section.). Wishing both Newton-John and Caroline Kennedy the best in their charitable work

Is 5000 years of traditions really that ancient ?
Or does she mean ancient traditions that Japan adopted from China ,korea , India and Egypt ?

Huh? The woman who criticized Abe's shrine visit for the first time in history and Japan's whale hunting?

That has nothing to do with government, but is a state ceremony. And she once insisted on getting and very much loved to be chauffeured in the Imperial horse carriage, which alone surely more than qualifies for the highest possible honors or ribboned orders and excuses any other criticism. ROFL
