We got a brilliant turkey for Xmas from them. Definitely will use again. For most meat, though, you can probably get decent cuts from your local butcher.

Maybe if I had the space for a second freezer I would do it.

The Meat Guy has been doing this for roughly 10 years now, and its sales are incredible, servicing a lot of Japan. I recommend it.

During the times when people were panic-buying TP and alcohol (for disinfectant) in the US, there was a shortage of meats, especially pork because of COVID outbreaks in meat processing plants. This was around May or June, and here in Ohio there was also a shortage of dedicated freezers.
People were buying them up so they could hoard meat. We found a small chest freezer for around $169 and kept our needs stocked when we could find them. Right now the panic-buying seems to be alcohol and (weirdly) Grape Nuts. Oh, and canned cat food.

6000 JPY/kg for prime wagyu could be really inexpensive. I've seen cuts going for double or more, it all depends actually on the quality and brand.

I'm not going to say anything... just let her words speak for themselves....

This weird analogy does not spark joy.

Transformational inspiration comes in many forms - but a 2 kilo chunk of meat delivery?

Translation: Order bulk and put more yen in her bank.

My better half has been using the Meat Guy for years. I hope she realizes that when the pandemic ends, the reverse effect is more than likely to happen but good luck to her. I may check it out one day.

The headline and article as a whole are riddled with forced associations and cliches. The lady's address is the center of Niigata City, population 791,000. That's less "rural" that Glasgow or Manchester. Or what is left of the Motor City itself, Detroit.
Most people are buying a 2kg block of meat, something you'd roast whole or cut into big steaks for a cookout. One or two meals is not "bulk buying", and the "pandemic" likely has nothing to do with it.

Meanwhile, sales of plant-based (ie vegan) food have shot up (even more) during the pandemic in countries like UK, just coming off yet another successful Veganuary.

Sounds like she is the Mari Kondo of meat preparation!

Stop - you're making me hungry!

I guess there will be even more freezer needs now.
The Meat Guy has been selling bulk meat for years.
I still prefer to pick up small quantities as there is nothing worse tasting than freezer burned meat.

I would REALLY love to see what she actually said in Japanese. This sounds like a cherry-picked comment and probably embellished as well!

Don't bother looking if you can't afford at least 6000 yen per kilo plus 1400 yen postage. I'd expect even butchers in Ginza to have wagyu in that price range.
