Leave them alone, every family has problems it's called life. I'm so sorry I read news stories about this young couple. I'd hate to see news stories, analysis of my life when I was 26.

Has no one speculated that if that they do it in 2020, that's when the olympics are? I mean, it's another publicity opportunity...

Fevered speculation?

This is where the media falls down, badly. Just leave the young couple alone, for crying out loud.

2 years is enough time to create a scandal for the young man, a falling out with the royal family per say since he is a commoner,  also she may have changed her mind and decided she didn't want to lose her royal status???

4 mil usd aint that much money... seems like just a fuss

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

I more suspect she thought well about it and realized that she would have to be dealing with other issues... single elder mother, boy that doesnt seem too mature and so on...

probably best to consider if she is really willing to give up her status / wealth for him.

She's so gorgeous, there must be thousands of men who want her

The Nikkei business daily warned against labelling Kei Komuro as not suitable as a partner for the royal.

"It would be a shame for a democratic country if concerns and criticism about family lineage or economic resources caused pressure," it said, warning it could create serious problems for future royal marriages.

There you have it. The Nikkei is telling you all to leave Komuro alone.

However, there is one thing that is beyond speculation, she’s not pregnant. If she was, the wedding would be in two days not two years.

Even an ordinary family would have cold feet over their beloved daughter's marriage if weekly magazines wrote this much

But the mags wouldn't go after an 'ordinary family' in the same way.

Enough with this 'he's a commoner' rubbish. If she marries, the only person she can marry is a commoner. There are no eligible single males in the Imperial Family that she could marry. She either marries a commoner (or a foreigner) or she stays single.

Other royals, say Brits, are rather hopeful. And its ...... money hereabouts?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a pity. They look like a happy and lovely couple.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Enough with this 'he's a commoner' rubbish. all Royal families all over the world originally were commoners, it was their skill at butchery and war that put their families in the position they are today

So the theory is, he's no good because his mother did something bad?

I have no idea about this guys true character but I can say, "we can't choose who our parents are."

So Ms Kumuro is in dispute with an ex. What does that have to do with her son?

This relationship hasn't been 'rushed', quite the contrary. Rather it's that the media frenzy over something trivial has meant the IHA isn't so keen on the marriage and is putting pressure on Mako to drop him. This marriage won't happen unless they just go off to City Hall together and damn the consequences. Run, Mako, run. Get away while you have the chance.

Fame is no gift.

The I.H.A should stay out of this and let them marry when they please

2 ( +2 / -0 )

“we can't choose who our parents are."

True so he’s not be blamed but the answer to that is “the apple does not fall from the tree.”

WTFJapan--you are 100% spot on with your comment

If you ask me, by 2020, the Olympics will be yet again another reason for their wedding postponement. So they'll push it back even more until she falls in love with a royal relative of hers.

The only unmarried male in the imperial (not royal) family is 11 years old. Otherwise, incisive comment.

Do we actually know for a fact that the IHA is pressuring Princess Mao to break off the engagement, i.e. it has been confirmed by authorities on the subject? Or is that just what people are gossiping about - because they like a good gossip?

The article mentions that she's widowed, but don't forget she's widowed because the guy killed himself. Do you want that in your family tree?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

And now his estranged family is crawling out of the woodwork it's like he won a big Lotto jackpot in the states this marriage should not happen

@ Civitas Sine Suffragio

Really? It must just be me, then....

I seriously doubt that this wedding will ever happen. Powers that be and all of that kind of stuff....

If you hesitate, you loose. Just get on with it and marry.

A close friend of mine eloped together with the woman he loved, and she lloved him. (similar situation in many ways). I helped them. Two years ago I was guest of honour at their 35 th. wedding anaversary, surrounded by their 3 children. A grandchild is on the way. Still in love and happy.

There's something about this "delay" that simply doesn't gel. If there are doubts on one side they would break it off, rather than go through the two years and indeed probably a lifetime of misery. Could it be that there has been a credible ultra rightist threat (a la Asahi Shimbun assassination) to relevant personnel in the IHA and those people are scared for their own safety?

And her own brother.

Well it could be, but it could also be aliens, or spies from an alternate reality, or an infinite number of other possibilities.

So while it could be, it definitely seems more like an unlikely conspiracy theory.

True so he’s not be blamed but the answer to that is “the apple does not fall from the tree.”

Bigoted, discriminatory nonsense.

Apples don’t fall far from the tree. You don’t think you have any traits inherited from you parents? No one is saying it’s all nature but it isn’t all nurture either.

Why punish the child for the sins of the parents?

As I said it's bigoted, discriminatory nonsense.
