If the distribution takes as long as it took being approved then might have to wait until 2022 to get my jab.

Its good news. On the other hand are they happy to get the vaccine so the olympics can go on or are they happy that the vaccine will save lives regardless of the games?

Facts don't care about your feelings. You are not immune from Covid-19, and without a vaccine can pass the vaccine to others who are vulnerable, too.

No thanks. Have never had such a vaccine or a flu shot. Haven't had the flu in 15 years. Not going to start messing with my body's natural immunity, that it has built up over the years, by taking this vaccine.

You can still pass the virus on to others even if you get vaccinated. (BBC, NY Times, Healthline, etc)

Lazarus Knows - even if you get the vaccine, you can still be a carrier of COVID and spread it. You are still a danger to the who have not received the vaccination, even if you received yours.

In all honesty, I think its actually sad that people are so willing to accept this despite the reality of the situation. The reality is COVID is just not that bad as the media has been making it out to be. The fact that people can't see where this is all heading is utterly sad an atrocious.

Aside from reason below the govt must be waiting for adequate supplies first before embarking on mass inoculations. Hopefully @Antiquesavings reposts again more info

Unless you're a front line worker, in a high risk group, or part of the elites, I can almost guarantee you won't be getting a jab this year. maybe not even next year. This whole vaccine rollout is going to take a lot longer than people realise.

Fuzzy... as a mid 50's healthy male, I've been informed by someone working in the health ministry that I can expect a jab "around" the end of October..."if everything goes well". So if you are older before or later if you are a wippersnapper!

I'm sure even those involved don't really have a handle on it yet. Time will tell. I'm as hopeful as anyone that it will be fast and smooth, but I'll believe it when I see it. One thing we have learnt, from another country that I won't name because the moderators around here have a problem with it, is this particular country had to give the first dose to around 50% of their population and the second dose to around 25% of their population before they saw a meaningful turn down in the infection rate. That's the prize we should all have our eyes on if we want our lives back.

Guess better than nothing .... but then again ....

Hopefully they have other shipments in the works and this shipment will only be used for initial doses, not wastefully kept in storage for 3 weeks until the 2nd dose is required. I'm still worried about the availability of low dead space syringes though...I really hope that 20% will not be wasted due to a syringe shortage.

Japan's first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine arrived on Friday, local media reported, with official approval for the Pfizer Inc shots expected soon as the country races to control a third wave of infections ahead of the Olympic Games.

Japan has arranged to buy 144 million doses of the vaccine made by the U.S. drugmaker and German partner BioNTech, enough to inoculate 72 million people.

Can someone tell me why only the selected few will get the Pfizer doses and whom they will be distributed too and why are we the rest of the 72 million getting different batch mfg?

Doesnt really matter to general population. The general population would be lucky to get the chance receive a dose of any type of vaccine sometimes in 2022 if not later.

The US has already vaccinated about 50 million people...a little under half the entire population of Japan.

To say the Japanese Govt response is slow is an understatement.

If the Japanese government can pull off 1,000,000/day , this will still take until the end of the year to get both jabs out.

seriously, what will they be doing until April? There are over 2,000,000 doctors and nurses, and how many paramedics and care givers. How many medical personnel are they planning to vaccinate before April?

And they don't last more than 8 months at best, according to the surveillance team studying the efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine over here in London.

I heard this directly from a friend from HS who is now a Virologist actively involved with the surveillance programme.

PLEASE, get better informed before passing on false hopes to all.

Japan will probably be fine. It's the people in the west (the US in particular) who are not likely see an end of Covid-19 for a long time since a high percentage will refuse the vaccines available.

It's the price you pay for having so many ill-informed people.

USA 1/12.21 The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Moderna permission to increase the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses per vial from 10 to 14, the New York Times reports.

Hopefully there would be minimal or no problems with succeeding supplies.

If no problems with supplies of vaccines and freezers Japan can vaccinate faster than most countries
