oh wow, it won't be a pretty sight. A month ago I witnessed a beach cleaning operation in Chiba...Tons of construction wood, trees, house poles and walls, etc. , washed ashore...

I think they should make an agreement with Tokyo to send it back and have it burned here.

MaboDofu, and that would be because...?

We should return all debris back to Japan. It is of course their property. Some sentimental items may be in the debris fields.

Check for money in matresses before burning. Could be the first self-funded cleanup.

Aqualung: Do you mean Futons? They sink when wet. I put one in a washing machine once, and wow.

The flotsom and jetsam world tour.

What the -1?!?! If one does not agree with my comments is invited to volunteer for helping. Especially beaches north of Choshi (Chiba) are still relatively full with debris

No surprise here. Sad but this is mother nature. RIP

Pretty sure Mabo~ was waxing ironic on his/her first comment. Going to be a lot of major freaking beach combing going on along the west coast.

Good point Ranger. There might be some treasures to be found.

Hope they don't encounter a lot of needles.............

I would imagine most things of value have sunk. About the only things that will make it to the North American coastline are the things DESIGNED to float or wood debris.

seems amazing almost that things can float for that long period of time, especially for a year from now! kinda intriqued to go just to see whatll show up next!

Welcome to USA. We are big enough to accommodate all the unwanted junks from our neighbors.

Now N. America can see the natural look of beaches in japan. Refrigerators, syringes, diapers, bamboo, wood, junk and etc.

Before March 11,2011 every day would be a pile of wood on the beach. So much wood you can build 30 story houses.
