As a member of the large public, I welcomed any one dealing with food to have not only mask but gloves, and for those handling food or cleaning tables, please by all means wear gloves and masks, more importantly don't use the same cloth again and again to wipe down tables or sweep while patrons are eating.

Dominos came up with an ingenious way of dealing with this, if you ask them to the delivery driver will not come within 2m of you. It’s a great way to let people who are under self quarantine still get food without risking infecting the driver. Other delivery services would be smart to adopt this model

A female deliverer with another food service firm, however, said, "My job performance is reviewed by users, so if I am judged to dissatisfy them and my ratings go down, I might lose work opportunities.

You'll lose all work opportunities if you are dead.

Those masks are not effective! Why do people continue to rely upon magic thinking? Guess it is easier than actually doing something that works, such as Dominos' idea. That is a practical solution. Wash hands.

Ah the mask... that fashion item.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Those masks are not effective

Present your evidence, that has not been demonstrated and there is plenty of indirect evidence that mask are part of the hygienic measures that actually protect from infection. It does not matter how much you wash your hands if droplets enter directly your mouth and nose.

Staying 2 meters from an infected person to prevent infection is also something that has "no evidence of protecting people" against this coronavirus, it does not mean it is magical thinking. Same as with mask use it perfectly logical to expect it to have a role, even if not a perfect protection.

Any foreigners commenting on the use of masks in Japan are doing so from their own cultural perspective.

It is a mistake to apply the same criteria as to the the use of masks in Japan.

In China, if you don't wear a mask to deliver food, your business is finished.

It's all about how popular you are with the likes. Facts and good work just get in the way.

Use common sense and if that ruffles feathers, so be it. You can't please everyone all of the time but you can use common sense all of the time and be safe.

If there's 100 millions contaminated . Maybe i'll start panicking. For now, it's all good.

Those masks are not effective!

I’ve been reading many opinions on this and I’ve seen different opinions among experts.

On what grounds are you making this claim?

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Just need a large sign on your delivery truck. "We require our drivers to wear a face mask."

Claim: ‘Face masks don’t work’

Wearing a face mask is certainly not an iron-clad guarantee that you won’t get sick – viruses can also transmit through the eyes and tiny viral particles, known as aerosols, can penetrate masks. However, masks are effective at capturing droplets, which is a main transmission route of coronavirus, and some studies have estimated a roughly fivefold protection versus no barrier alone (although others have found lower levels of effectiveness).

Can wearing a medical face mask protect you against the new coronavirus? It's a question many people are asking, including pet owners who are putting canine face masks on their dogs.

If it's a regular surgical face mask, the answer is no, Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, told Live Science.

A more specialized mask, known as an N95 respirator, can protect against the new coronavirus, also called SARS-CoV-2. The respirator is thicker than a surgical mask, but neither Schaffner nor the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) recommend it for public use, at least not at this point.

Public health officials have been clear about it: There’s no need for healthy people to go around wearing face masks to protect themselves from the novel coronavirus. That hasn’t stopped a run on supplies, which has led to a shortage of face masks for medical personnel coping with the epidemic, who do need them. That news, in turn, has led many people to wonder why a mask that’s vital for protecting a nurse or a doctor wouldn’t help them too. Here’s what’s behind the confusion.

Can you downvotes as much as you can.

Masks are tendance nowadays.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

To wear a mask or not: That is the question. Experts agree to disagree leaving the public with more questions.

Those masks deliver a dangerous and false sense of security. So often I see people wearing masks, constantly touching them, moving them, then touching their face and objects. If you have the virus you are passing it on.

Wash your hands, use tissues and don't touch your face.

Present your evidence, that has not been demonstrated and there is plenty of indirect evidence that mask are part of the hygienic measures that actually protect from infection.

Nope.

Medical experts have urged people to stop panic buying face masks, warning that such equipment is not an effective way to protect yourself from the fast-spreading coronavirus.

The U.S. Surgeon General put it even more emphatically, tweeting: "Seriously people — STOP BUYING MASKS!"

He explained, "They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can't get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!"

I do not get why some people are making a fuss about the way other people choose to dress. If they try to force you wear a mask you can protest but if they want to wear one themselves, why not just let them be ?

If you are against it because you think it can have a negative effect on the spread of a illness, it create an ecological problem, the current demand create a shortage penalizing people which actually need one, ... or so on I could understand. But for some people it seems more like : it esthetically displease me to see someone with a mask so people should stop wearing them. Well people are free to choose what they put on and the reason why they do it (legal regard non taken in account as too long).

Instead of the drivers and deliverers wearing masks, why don't they just give the people opening the doors a baby pacifier? Same effect. Makes the receiver feel all warm, comfy, and secure.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

but some are concerned that concealing their face could displease customers.

Really? During a time like this, people are feeling disrespected if someone wears a mask delivering their food? I can easily think of a million more disrespectful things.

Dominos - are all the employees food preparers chefs wearing masks too, do they disinfect all the premises ovens cutlery daily? how about the deliverers of ingredients to Dominos stores? the entire concept is absurd.

Nope.

Medical experts have urged people to stop panic buying face masks, warning that such equipment is not an effective way to protect yourself from the fast-spreading coronavirus.

Do you even read what you post? it says clearly that they are necessary and effective, but not recommended for the general population that are not exposed because they are not in not long and close contact with patients. That is completely different from being ineffective if you do. It should be a big hint when they say that health providers DO need them.

Also, opinions are NOT data, so if somebody ask for data to prove what you believe and you cannot provide such data you should re-think your beliefs.

Also, opinions are NOT data, so if somebody ask for data to prove what you believe and you cannot provide such data you should re-think your beliefs.

And you, can you provide data? Do you own a mask factory? Seems like you want everybody to wear a mask... when is not needed.

Relax man. It's all good.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Masks are a waste of time unless you are sick...and I do not think you should be delivering food if you are sick.

Two of my family members are doctors and others RN's. Masks are useless for protection. But work for stopping spreading the virus.

And you, can you provide data? Do you own a mask factory? Seems like you want everybody to wear a mask... when is not needed.

Data that mask are useless? no I can't, nobody can, that is my point. Not that everybody has to wear one, but that pushing a baseless opinion as if it were a fact is not valid. Not even a single time I have said anybody should wear a mask, but that is saying that they are just magical thinking is not valid. Its the same as saying that washing hands is useless because some people don't do it properly.

I m an uber eats delivery worker and honestly as much as i m wearing mask everyday i never had such an issue with customers, i agree that you can’t please everyone but most of people are ok dealing with someone wearing mask, by the way i use mask and gloves , and i believe it s about self awareness, the reason why i use mask is that i protect myself from direct contact with random persons, my first 2 years in japan i got 3 times influenza and since i started wearing mask now more than 2 years i didn’t catch a simple cold taking care of my health is important and if it s the best way to avoid risks between me and costumers ..

Don't forget your local friendly Postman Pat (or whatever his equivalent is in Japanese). Although they're wearing a mask, you still have to handle their pen, and delivery receipt paperwork - so if they're a Carrier that Letter or Parcel you're handling would probably have the virus on it too...
