Good for O'Barry, wearing a hairshirt over Flipper.

How many people are picketing Seaworld?

It's hard to win people over to your cause in Japan when you're covered in tattoos.

the latest celebrity to join the increasingly global campaign to stop the dolphin kill in Taiji

Yes the campaign which mustered a grand total of "about 50" people for their protest in Tokyo the other day.

The fishermen say the hunt is part of their village's tradition and call Western critics who eat other kinds of meat hypocritical.

And said fishermen are right.

Welcome to the jungle baby. You're gonna expose your prejudice.

As long as it's being done in Japan, it's nobody else's business. You don't see Japanese going to the US to protest about things that don't effect them. It's self righteous and arrogant.

All the blood in the water upset the gaijin protestors, so the kindly Taiji fishers came up with the bloodless method of driving a 25 mm diameter piece of water pipe into the dolphin's brain from above, just behind the blowhole. Then to stop that annoying bleeding they drive a wooden wedge into the hole in the brain.

Much cleaner, but they still haven't solved the problem of the fact that it takes the pesky dolphins about 7 minutes to die in agony.

This account defies anatomy of mammals. If you drive a pipe into a brain of a mammal it should die instantly and will certainly not feel pain.

darknuts: You don't see Japanese protesting anywhere really. Most of them don't care about anything except themselves.

Before you comment watch the clip. Brutal and heartless way of fishing and killing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw_JhFNdFGk

Oh, wow. The C-list celebs are getting in on this stupidity now.

Sorum, who has also played with Velvet Revolver, said he hoped to organize a rock concert in Tokyo around the theme of “celebrating the dolphin,”

ROCK AND ROLL, MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANN!!!!!!

“Our work here is about supporting the Japanese activists,” O’Barry said.

No, it's not. It's about hiding behind the locals, not getting arrested and deported. Like you should be.

Over the weekend, nationalists in Taiji used loudspeakers to broadcast their message about the right to kill dolphins, and held a barbecue, presumably of whale or dolphin meat, at the cove, where Sorum and others opposing the hunt were watching.

Hahahaha! Awesome! I bet so many dummies were crying watching that.

“I’m going to bring a bunch of heavyweights, big rock stars,” said Sorum. “The main thing is to get the Japanese kids.”

One word: deluded.

You really think "the Japanese kids" care about "big rock stars"?? Idiot. They couldn't care less.

Let us know when you protest factory farming methods in the West. There are a slew of videos available online that document the horror, pain and suffering that cattle and pigs endure on their way to their industrialized demise. Cattle demonstrate complex social behavior and pigs are believed to be fairly intelligent animals.

While I feel sorry for those dolphins who get it at Taiji, the animal world is all about getting savagely ripped apart and gobbled up by some nasty, toothy beast anyway.

So he's fighting for a cause that few people care about... no need to diss the guy. At least it's something he believes in. What has Axl Rose done recently in the way of humanitarian or environmental causes?

In our day, we are faced with many philosophies, some true and some false. There are groups today, whose philosophy is that people are merely higher-functioning animals. Thus, they claim that animals such as dolphins as mentioned in this article are just as important as mankind. Often, such groups and individuals become very radical in their views and advocate policies and laws which actually make people less important than the animal kingdom. A classic example of a false philosophy.

I know songs of Guns and Roses well. But I never heard of this man Sorum.

Yes, They should.

Guy must still be high.

And some people call this culture which needs protecting. I wonder what UNESCO would say.

The problem that I find in this quote is that the slaughter / killing whatever you want to call it is reduced to it.

The dolphins are driven into the cove. In the past they were bashed to death (quite slowly) with metal pipes.

That is what IT is.
